canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

The Bastard Executioner: Cancelled by FX; No Season Two

by Cindy McLennan, November 18, 2015

The Bastard Executioner TV show on FX: canceled, no season 2Wilkin Brattle (Lee Jones) can now beat his sword into a plowshare, since there will not be a second season of The Bastard Executioner TV show. FX has cancelled the Tuesday night drama after one season of ten episodes.

According to Deadline, creator Kurt Sutter, who also plays the Dark Mute character, knew the 14th century period drama would not return for season two, when he filmed the season one and series finale.

Deadline reports Sutter took out ads (below) in the trades, to thank the cast, crew, and the network. Said cast includes: Jones, Sutter, Stephen Moyer, Matthieu Charneau, Katey Sagal, Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Sam Spruell, Darren Evans, Danny Sapani, Timothy V. Murphy, Sarah White, Sarah Sweeny, Ethan Griffiths, and Ross O’Hennessy.

According to Deadline, Sutter did not break the bad news to the cast at the time, as the decision was not then final, and he did not want cancellation news to affect production. Last week, star Katy Sagal admitted she was not sure if there would be a second season.

As of episode nine, which aired Tuesday, November 10, 2015, The Bastard Executioner was not faring well in the ratings. Its to-date season average ratings in the 18-49 demographic was a mere 0.45, with a total average audience size of 1.26 million viewers. Dateline mentions that the ratings were not high enough, considering the cost of shooting on location, in Wales.

This really sucks! You get into a show and the a&*hole execs cancel it! It blows! I think that I’ll just wait until a show is on for 3 or more seasons before I start to watch! I just started hing Orange is the New Black on Netflix! Maybe that is where I should stay since FX doesn’t know good shows from bad!!!!

I really like this show and am sick and tired of what 18 to 49 year olds who happen to have a wilson rating box in their home think. So the only people that matter are those that somehow volunteer to have one of these boxes so they can be in charge of ratings and have this much power? How do you even get one of the boxes and get into the powerful position of choosing for all of us what will and will not stay in production and on TV now days

SHAME ON FX. This was an amazing show! Disappointed to see it go! Especially the twisted Steven Moyer so wonderful here and in True Blood!

Great show and once again the 18-49 rule. What about the rest of us, don’t we count? I like the different shows they sort of break up the rest and it was well written. Keep taking the interesting ones off and soon you won’t have anymore fans watching. Sad to see The Bastar d executioner go.

I cannot believe you’re cancelling the show the bstard executioner is absolutely wonderful! It has not been given enough time for people to realize what it is and watch it. People are still coming down from sons of anarchy. This is not fair to do this! Please bring back a season 2!

And it’s firefly all over again. Why must networks do this to us. You create a marvelous show that captures your attention and draws you in just to cancel after the first season with a cliff hanger that leaves nothing but speculation. Thank you once again TV networks. You have ****ed me once again.

The bastar d executioner is an amazing series that I don’t feel has been given enough time for the masses to find out how amazing it really is. I believe that a season 2 would ultimately gain the intrest needed to continue production in Wales and truely kick off the series. Of course ads on other stations would help. The time slot and day is good considering you dont need to compete with the NFL, however a few more-timely adds would be beneficial. Please bring it back, even if it’s only one more episode to finish the story and answer… Read more »

I agree – this was one of the best shows going and because it takes a few episodes to get the plot and characters storyline in place this how needs a second season. There is nothing on television anymore whats the sense in even having one. Maybe hulu or netflix will pick up the show and they will be able to see what a hit it is!

This is the end for me.. I’m tired of getting into a show only to have the network decide to cancel it and not given a dame that they left us hanging with a cliff hanger that will never be answered. Don’t know about anyone else but if the series doesn’t have an ending every season I’m not going to watch it. Hooked me for the last time. In fact why watch any more of it…
