When Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgewick) leaves The Closer, she won’t be the only one saying goodbye. Though many of Sedgewick’s castmates will be returning for the Major Crimes spin-off, Corey Reynolds isn’t one of them.
Deadline reports that Reynolds declined the offer to return as Sgt. David Gabriel and has instead signed a talent holding deal with NBC.
A native of Richmond, Reynolds was primarily known for his work in musical theatre prior to his seven seasons on The Closer. The actor performed in touring productions of Smokey Joe’s Cafe and Saturday Night Fever before originating the role of Seaweed in Hairspray on Broadway. He was nominated for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award for the role.
On television, he’s guested on procedurals like NCIS, CSI: Miami, Without a Trace, and Simon Baker’s pre-Mentalistshow, The Guardian.
It’s not known if Reynold’s NBC deal will preclude him for making guest appearances on the Closer spin-off. Starring Mary McDonnell, Major Crimes will be set-up in the final episodes of The Closer and has already been picked up for a 10 episode first season. It’s not yet known when TNT will begin airing them.
What do you think? Are you going to watch Major Crimes? Will you miss seeing Reynolds with the rest of the cast?

Im watching major crimes. But I miss mr. Reynolds. I keep wandering where he was . I hate it when they change actors. So I got on google and ask where he was. Im sad that he is not coming on the show. But Im happy he is doing what he wants. Pray the best for him. God bless you mr. Reynolds.
I just started the Closer but I’ve come to love the cohesiveness of the team. Now I’m watching Major Crimes. Hopefully he will make an appearance
I loved Corey Reynolds in The Closer…he was my favorite. Will J.K.Simmons be joining Major Crimes. Please NEVER take The Closer off the air.
Hooked on the Closer. But the spin off of Major Crimes with the same cast, had to watch and got hooked on that show too. Now I watch their reruns.
I’m late to this. I really liked the character of Corey. He was a cool dude and his willingness to help Brenda was right on. Too bad he isn’t or didn’t return.
I miss cory however, I still enjoy major crimes. Cory stood out on the closer. As does Jon Terney today. I hope we see more of them both, Major Crimes is my favorite show.
I will truly miss Corey.. I absolutely loved everything about him… I applaud his decision to make new moves… This shows great courage, faith, and belief in yourself!!! May God bless him in all of his endeavors!!! This is what a STAR is made of!!!!
I love major crimes, great show. I enjoy Corey,s acting also..The best of luck to him in the future. Major Crimes keep up the great work…
What a fool that Corey Reynolds didn’t stay on! I am sure he didn’t think that the show would last. Unfortunately for him the opposite occurred and what he has gone to have failed. Meanwhile, Major Crimes just keeps getting stronger and better. They were given a gift with Mary McDonnell joining the cast, and the other stars just continue to demonstrate the high caliber of actors they are and how well they play off one another. This show is such a gift and a treat!
Fantastic actor – endearing to viewers – sorry to see him leave this “family” – we will watch any of his future programs.
I love watching Major Crimes. The series is great!
First it was abit strange without Corey Reynolds and Kyra Sedgwick.
But to be honest after the 7th season there have to be something new.
And Major Crimes is a wonderfull series! and Spin-Off.
(Only I find that Rusty person annoying)
I have just decided to start watching, Major Crimes, it started off pretty slow, but it seems to be picking up speed as I catch up. It definitely is not, The Closer, not even close, it is a much lower tempo, but still enjoyable. And I very much MISS, Corey and Kyra, which is the main reason why I did not watch, Major Crimes. But truly it did not seem fair to the other actors (after I really thought about it years later) to just not give them a chance to show how Great they are. I do not know… Read more »
