canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

The Dead Zone: Hall Says Series May Finish with Movie

by Trevor Kimball, June 23, 2008

Dead ZoneWhen USA network suddenly cancelled The Dead Zone last year, loyal viewers were understandably upset. After all, the sixth season ended in a cliffhanger. The network further aggravated fans by saying that they had no intention of filming any kind of resolution for the series. In a recent interview with Sci Fi Wire to promote The Dead Zone: The Final Season on DVD, series star Anthony Michael Hall said that there might be a finale after all.

Hall noted that there’s been stirrings of a possible movie to cap the series. He isn’t particularly optimistic that it will happen though because of the size of the show’s audience. He said, “There’s talk about it… I don’t think we had the size of a cult following that, let’s say, The X-Files did. You look at Sex and the City or The X-Files, these movies were done long after the shows pumped out their last episodes.” Hall added though that, “I would certainly be open to the potential for [a reunion].”

Hall expressed how much appreciation he had for the show’s creative team, particularly Dead Zone’s late executive producer, Michael Pillar; his son, Shawn Pillar; and co-executive producer Lloyd Segan. He said, “These guys, we made it a family affair… So I was grateful for the experience [of doing the show], and I would certainly entertain it if they wanted to pursue a film. Am I optimistic about it? Not really, but I certainly wouldn’t turn my back on the opportunity.”

Though the series wasn’t given a proper finale, Hall remains appreciative to everyone involved, including the viewers and the network that cancelled the show. On the Todd and Tyler Radio Empire Show, he said, “I think [the show] ran its course, we had a great run. We did 80 episodes over six seasons and USA network was great, a great company to work for and we had a great run with it. It was a great show, we had a lot of fans of the show, a great writing staff. It was just an amazing experience to do a show like that for six years, it was a lot of fun.” Stay tuned! I agree with everyone, these were two of the best show and I can’t believe they’ll keep us hanging. Put these two back on instead of that new crap – The Starter Wife, dumb show!

I somehow just discovered Dead Zone and have to say….I have been telling EVERYONE to watch it. Of course, I just logged on, and discovered it to be cancelled. It is by far, some of the best writing I have seen in years. I am severly dissappointed that this is gone and am voting to have the powers that be, reevaluate their goals. this was quality stuff, guys! COME BACK TO ME.

I can’t believe you took off such a great show. The Dead Zone was the only reason I watched USA!!!!! Now it is nolonger on the list of Channels I will watch. Especially since you left EVERYBODY hanging with no ending. Very sad that a Channel would do that. No reason to watch USA anymore!!!!

I really enjoyed the series and feel bad that they cancelled it. The cast really matured over the years and it would be nice to see some sort of finale…whether it be on the big-screen or on the TV. I would watch it.

Why not just a 2-hour USA-TV-Movie. Why make it a box-office movie which would obviously cost more because of advertising and the like.

I REALLY hope USA considers a conclusion to the story we all loved so much! If not USA will just be added to the list of Networks that have PISSED ME OFF!

You cant build up the suspense of Armageddon for the entire 6 seasons and then never have a conclusion to it. Thats as ridiculous as the people who canceled dark angel before we saw any sort of an conclusion or having charmed run for another season when the last episode of season 7 was clearly meant for a series finale. if you are going to make season 6 the last season then you should have had some sort of a conclusion with the whole apocalypse thing that has been going on since season 1. if u really need to conclude… Read more »

The show should never have been taken off the air. Bring it back if only for a limited finale series of programs.
