canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

The Dead Zone: USA Series Cancelled, No Season Seven

by Trevor Kimball, December 20, 2007

The Dead Zone canceledOn the previous episode of The Dead Zone, Johnny (Anthony Michael Hall) and his son JJ (Connor Price) were having new visions of Armageddon. Apparently the end was closer than they knew.

After six seasons, USA Networks has chosen to cancel the science-fiction series. Coincidentally, Dead Zone’s last episode aired on the same night as The 4400’s which has also been cancelled. It was suspected that time was running out on both series as they’ve both been on the air for several seasons and have grown more expensive. USA reportedly searched for ways to cut costs so the shows could be renewed but they ultimately decided to pull the plug.

Of the two cancellations, USA exec Jeff Wachtel said, “We wish we could keep all our great shows alive forever. But we feel we need to give some of our new shows a platform to grow, and it’s with great sadness that we say goodbye to two shows that had a great run and helped create the resurgence of original programming on our network and on all of cable.”

There’s been no word of any plans to bring the series’ unresolved storylines to a close. Stay tuned! TV Series Finale home page

It sucks enough to have every good show cancelled to make way for more crap but atleast have the decency to wrap the series up in the end! I’m sure it would boost dvd sales if the storylines actually reached solid conclusions! If you’re going to cancel it, finish it!

I agree with Chris. The Dead Zone story was clearly not over, and in fact was only ramping back onto the Stilson-and-Armageddon storyline. Just one more season to focus on and tie off that long-running backbone of the Dead Zone storyline would have made for a much nicer completion of the series, and left a rather large number of Dead Zone fans a much happier group. And cutting off also-popular and much-publicized The 4400 before it’s gotten anywhere near wrapping up all of the many plotlines that were clearly forming and intertwining… One has to wonder if any new program… Read more »

I was way into this show. I’m saddened to hear of the cancellation. I hope they at least bring a resolution to Denoument. Ultimately I would love to see this gem return. Sarah Johnny and JJ you will be missed.

I am extremely upset to hear The Dead Zone is cancelled. I have faithfully watched The Dead Zone since day 1 and now they are not even going to have the decency to give us a series finale!! That is awful! USA network, you think your ratings are going to go up, think again! I will not watch your network ever again and I am sure a lot of others agree with me.

This is a disgrace, not only to the entire team of The Dead Zone, but also to the fans. It is sad knowing that the television studios need an audience to keep them going, then they just cut us off. the USA Network, very, very tacky.

I am so unbelievably saddened at this news. I’ve been over and over my Tivo’d episodes of Season 6, patiently waiting for Season 7 of TDZ, and what?? No Season 7?? The reasons for cancelling “to give other series room to grow” is just ridiculous. This show has a HUGE fan base. We deserve better than this. VI am very disappointed and for now, I have no use for the USA network — AT ALL.

I hearby nominate USA Network for a Darwin Award due to astoundingly stupid judgment.

I hear their new series is going to be a reality based show that follows the lives of 5 girls and asks the important question: Who’s breast implants are better????

I am an extreme fan of both of these shows (I have never missed even one episode of either show, and have actually sucked in several friends too) and am SOOOO upset that USA just cancelled the shows with no ending, no warning, no anything! I can tell you right now that I will not be watching any further shows on USA just because of this reason. Why get involved in a show that they are just going to end up cancelling whenever they feel like it, and leaving fans hanging with no closure! USA stinks!

Today is January 8, 2008 and I did a search for when the new seasons of The Dead Zone and The 4400 start… @$#)(&* Stupid idiots @ USA…you have got to be kidding me…say “goodbye to two shows that helped create the resurgence of original programming on your network and all of cable”…like this will inspire me to continue to watch anything on USA if I’m not going to get some kind of wrap on a show love to watch…which by the way I loved to watch both of these…heck that mentality is precisely (#)$*& what ticks me off the… Read more »

They should not have killed off popular character Walt. Story lines began to be predictable. Too bad. Good show that probably jumped the shark earlier than it had too.

I loved Dead Zone and 4400. I can’t believe they’re cancelled. That makes no sense. When you see the unintelligent junk being aired, these shows were an oasis of viewing. Bring them back at least one more season to resolve their storylines!
