As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.
What do you think? Are you sorry that The Gates won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to see happen?

Who makes these decision to cancel shows…. Was the population taken with 78 year old men and women….. this show is what the population was looking forward to on Sundays. Nice job, ABC… pushing the population to view cable stations.
I hope they read these comments. I won’t be watching anything on ABC ..NOW!!
What is wrong with ABC….they finally had a good show. I guess back to cable…I won’t be watching ABC anytime soon
once again an original & interesting show with a great ensemble cast & a unique premise bites the dust–almost every single show that piques my interest gets cancelled–and without a closure episode. instead we see more remakes & insipid reality shows–trash trash trash! And an insult to th viewers intelligence!
I only tuned into ABC to watch the Gates and even after my husband came home from Iraq we watched it together. Looking forward to a second season, but of course they always cancel the good shows. Dont see myself tuning into ABC anymore. It was the only show they had that I found worth watching.
B……….S…! This is why I am done with these shows. Everyone I start to like is canceled without a proper ending… Lost and Prison Break are the only 2 I have seen from beginning to end.. Real Annoyed..
I loved it from the beginning. I can’t believe they will let us hang with such a great last episode.
I was waiting to see what would take place. This was a great show , I am so sorry that it will not be back.
love the show! i wish there was a second season! but hey we dont always get what we want!
finally some good news, I only saw two episodes and they stank. Writing, acting, no plot were all bad. True Blood is better than this show, Buffy, Angel, Dark Shadows, X-files had better writing with out standing actors.
I am so upset! I was honestly addicted to this show, I cannot believe they only gave it one season to catch on!
Really sorry to see Gates go. It caught my attention early and held it all season. Although ABC, a major network cancelled the show, I am surprised one of the syndicated stations did not try to pick it up. The wriyng on the show and the story lines far surpass Buffy or Angel and any of those other simplistic shows. Bye Gates…sorry they didn’t keep you open for my looked forward to Suday nights.
never ever gonna watch abc again. the gates was the only good show and they pulled it after one season.abc sucks worst chanell ever
I loved witches of eastwick and I loved the gates, It’s obvious niether show was given enough air time to catch on, for people to pass the word how great they were. That’s all it would have taken. I am sick of ABC getting these great shows and actors and then not having the vision and instinct to carry through with a great idea. I really am becoming gun shy now regarding any show that abc comes up with anymore because I don’t trust that they listen to the viewers and I am so tired of being truely disappointed. 8… Read more »
I wished The Gates could have stayed on. It reminded of Dark Shadows but more updated. It had great story lines and plots. It kept me wanting to watch more. I hate it when a good show gets canceled. I hope they bring it back with all the original crew members. They did a great job and would like to see more of them. Had great story plots and great actors all of them. Well hope they do bring it back in my life time. Miss all of you. Thanks for the time that I got to watch the series.… Read more »
I am offically ticked!!! I LOVED the gates!!!! It was the show where people who like desperate housewives and trueblood got a little of both worlds!!!! I think that it sucks that people today lack imagination. Or the fact that we have been reduced to 200 cable and satelite channels full of reality tv. Which in and of itself is completely ridiculous!!! Bring back the sitcoms that let people imagine and dream mr . exec that sits in the office all day!!! Stop listen to the critics and listen to the people. Not all of us are stuck on dumb… Read more »
I have to say I’m really bummed.. I watched it from the day it came on and didn’t miss a show.. I knew it wouldn’t make it to the second season, but a girl can dream can’t she???
Good luck to the cast!!!
