The Mentalist: Season Six Ratings

Published: May 19, 2014

The Mentalist TV show ratings: cancel or renew?Last season, despite a move to Sunday nights and a big drop in the ratings, CBS renewed The Mentalist for a sixth season. Will the ratings continue to fall? Will CBS bring the show back for a seventh year? Stay tuned!

On The Mentalist, Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) continues to help the CBI solve cases while he seeks to bring his family’s killer to justice. Also starring in the show are Robin Tunney, Tim Kang, Owain Yeoman, Amanda Righetti, Emily Swallow, and Rockmond Dunbar.

The higher a show’s ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better its chances for survival. New ratings data will be added as it becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

How are your shows doing in the ratings? Check the current rankings:
A&E | ABC | AMC | Bravo | CBS | CMT | The CW | FOX | Freeform | FX | FXX
Hallmark | HBO | History | MTV | NBC | OWN | Showtime | Starz | Syfy | TBS
TNT | TV Land | USA Network | WGN America

5/10 update: The Mentalist has been renewed for a seventh (and likely final) season on CBS.

5/19 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context here.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

Last year comparison: The fifth season of The Mentalist averaged a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.5 million total viewers.

Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

I do hope they keep The Mentalist on. One of my favorites. Hope NCIS is better this year. It had been a favorite.

The Mentalist is one of my favorite local tv shows. Hope it is not cancelled.
There are not too many decent shows left to watch. I also like Good Wife and Castle. I wish something could be put on Saturday nights. There is nothing to watch on Sat. Networks thinks that everyone goes out on Sat. nights which is not true.

I glade the mentalist is not cancelled. It’s a very good show and I love Simon Baker. I like his sense of humor and whit. He makes me laugh and his relationships with his fellow actors. The ratings dropped because of the move to Sunday. Please do not cancel this show, especially now that he and Lisbon have started a relationship.

I love The Mentalist! So glad it was renewed hope it will be renewed again and again. So sad to hear the ratings are low on a good clean family viewable show. Yet we have inappropriate shows comedies, sci-fi etc– shows abounding. Come on Fans, please speak up!

Maybe if the Mentalist evolves into a character-plot driven show then the ratings could easily shot up. Maybe that’s why NCIS is a top rated show!

Why do executives allow a show to run past its sell by date whilst worshipping the High Priest of Ratings The Mentalist series could easily have ended with the death of Red John and then re-started as a spin off new series with some similar actors and the first or second episode would have been the finale episode of series 6. The rest of that series could be exploring a menage a trois or how Jisbon worked out cold cases whilst working out personal relationships. Maybe that’s why British shows end earlier and finish whilst people are asking for more.… Read more »

Please do not cancel the series. Try changing the time slot and try creating different story lines for the characters, the main characters of Simon Baker and his costar Robin Tunney
That could actually help.

I just wanted to add that the show is very entertaining and I want to see the personal lives of the Simon Baker and Robin Tunney unfold and turn into a couple as they work on their cases. Also more appearances by the other characters as they work together since they already are a couple. It is great what you have done with Simon and Robin but now you should continue the show with them as a couple. Actually the show is refreshing as it is entertaining. Many people will miss it if did not return to include me so… Read more »

Love this show madly, although sometimes have to catch up on monday from the online video. Please don’t kill it!!! Move it to 9 PM on thursday would be better. The personal love life stories of those characters on top of their killer hunting job, make the show alive and interesting. Addicted to it! Can’t wait for next season.

I love the Mentalist. Even my husband enjoys it which is funny since he normally watches only sports and hunting shows. Why not move it to a night where ratings can increase? I think CBS moves the shows to Sundays to have a reason to cancel. It’s better now that they’ve dumped the Rigsby/Van Pelt love story. Really, who would fall in love with him? Being at the FBI is OK but the show was way better when they were at the CBI.

I do not understand the comment about low ratings. The Mentalist beats or matches The Good Wife ratings even though it often ends after 11pm. And its ratings are on par with the show that replaced it on Thursday night.

With an average over 9 million viewers, not many shows can match that. So how does that equate with low ratings?

The problem with following Ratings especially in the 19/39 age range is that everything is dumberd down to cater for that target audience.
Here in the UK channels compete to try and put on programmes that “appeal” to a wider audience; old and new. This is why the “soaps” are forever making their storylines more life like!
It is strange that so many British programmes are being bought up and shown on US TV. Maybe that is a comment on the paucity of good homegrown programmes being made and shown on TV.

I love the Mentalist. Last year when they changed the time to Sunday at 10:00 it meant that with football on earlier the show was always starting later. I can’t stay up that late, really was annoying!
