The Vampire Diaries and The Originals have both returned with new seasons to The CW. The Vampire Diaries, starring Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder, has started season seven without Nina Dobrev, and The Originals, starring Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies, is facing new challenges in its third season.
The Originals began as a spin-off from The Vampire Diaries, but the series has not leaned on Vampire Diaries at all since it premiered. While some faces from TVD have appeared on the spin-off at one point or another, the New Orleans based series has stayed in NOLA and away from Mystic Falls. Klaus only returned once to close out his story with Caroline Forbes.
Julie Plec is the woman in charge of both shows for CW, and she spoke about the challenges involved with running both series. She is adding even more onto plate with Containment, which will premiere at midseason.
With The Vampire Diaries in season seven, is Julie Plec even considering the endgame for the series? She spoke about that in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“I would love to keep telling stories in these worlds for as long as possible, as long the people who help me tell the stories want to do it. In that category are the actors who bring these characters to life, as the writers who have a point of view on how to tell the stories, as the studio and the network who have to write a check to do so. It’s a big group decision, frankly, and it’s fascinating; the behind-the-scenes of it all is so interesting. When you get to a show that has run this long, you get to a group of people who dig in to their desire to keep doing it — it’s wonderful. We shall see.”
When Nina Dobrev exited the series at the end of season six, many fans thought the end for The Vampire Diaries was near. Elena Gilbert will return to the series, but only for the series finale. She will need to reunite with Damon, after all.
Season seven of the series is taking the characters in a new direction. They are not stuck in Mystic Falls anymore. Caroline was seen engaged to a mystery man and living in Dallas on the last episode. The premiere showed Damon and Stefan in New York City. There is no way to know what will happen next on The Vampire Diaries.
As for The Originals, that series has introduced new characters this season that give the series a new direction. The battle this season is to keep each sire line alive. Kill one of the three remaining original vampires, and you kill all the vampires they sired over the last 1000 years.

These shows are awesome(Originals,Vamparie Daires, I hope someone is checking Hulu or other programs like these to see how often these shows are watch I always wait for the next day to watch them on Hulu with no commercials.

Bring Lexi back a fan favorite. I can think of so many great story line with her to bring that special spark back. She’s full of energy plus fans adore her. You can have a great season finale that will leave the fans addicted wanting to sink their teeth into , wanting more with something to talk about. You can still be a hit #1 show. You have a great cast, but your story line is flat. You can bring it back with Lexi & the Salvatore brothers..
If you want to make TVD as great as it was bring Lexi back. I can come up with so many exciting addictive story lines with her in the show. She’s full of energy plus the fans love her. The Show can become #1 again. The story line needs an amazing season finale giving fans something to sink their teeth into & want to hold on to.

always watch T.V.D. AND THE ORIGINALS., THATS MY THURSDAY NIGHTS..
I love both shows! I can see TVD going on without Nina, it will be hard and they have their hands tied with Elena set to wake up if Bonnie dies…So not sure how they can have Bonnie face any life and death story lines unless the Fan Gods smile on us and get Nina to come back!
The Originals is great and I live the show very much!

I loved TVD. Unfortunately when you loose a major main character, you loose a heart. Yes the can go on. My honest question would be, at what expense? The whole show revolved around MF & a group of main characters. Three of those characters creating the biggest & most integral part of the story. Then another core group of main characters which the 3 “played off, or around”. To think that that lead female can leave, in this particular show, and that it can continue on for years….. I like both series but Rebecca is my favorite character and I would like to see more of her story line. They have hits on their hands and just need to keep the story lines going. It really isn’t so hard with all of the material that they have. Lets keep both going for a long time.

I stopped reading the books quite a while ago, I enjoy the show a lot more. I hope both shows last a few more seasons. I remember watching soaps with my mom when I was younger and remember hearing “the role of so and so will now be played by…” wonder if the show would do something like that or heck just have her body swap with someone like they did on The Originals with Rebecca 😉
Vampire diaries should not stop keep renewing it do not think about canceling vampire diaries it’s amazing show I love watching vampire diaries and also love watching The Originals too
