The series finale for The Vampire Diaries is currently being filmed in Atlanta, and another former member of the cast revealed he was headed to Atlanta this week. David Anders teased on his Twitter in the early morning hours of Monday that he was flying to Atlanta later that day.

Anders appeared on season one and season two of the vampire drama as John Gilbert, the birth father of Elena Gilbert. Nina Dobrev revealed she was on set on Friday. Several photos from the set of the The CW series popped up on social media over the weekend.

Gilbert exited the series with his death, but he did pop up in a season five episode as Katherine Pierce neared death.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Anders had asked Julie Plec to bring back his character. It appears that the actor was granted his request.
