This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.

Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.

This is an Excellent show ! Please at least give us a few more episodes to tie up the loose ends with the characters… I would love to see another season… saw the show on Netflix… loved it ! Couldn’t stop watching it, watched 3 and 4 episodes till late at night, and I Never do that !

my wife and i found a gifted man on netflix, we do not enjoy most sitcoms., specially the medically oriented type………But…we absolutely loved this show…and cannot for the life of us figure why it would be cancelled….the actors and personallities seem to mesh so well, and the story line is excellent…..too bad…this would have been right up there with sienfeld for us …Greg & Bernadette Miller
I have just finished watching the re-run of this series and went on the website to see when season 2 was starting as I am totally hooked. What do they mean its been cancelled. I loved this and they should re-think there discussion or they will have a lot of very disappointed viewers.
We were the same as Kate. Never saw a promo, and found it on Netflix. This is the best, most dramatic, entertaining show on tv. I’m sorry the star didn’t find the series to be what he thought it would be, but it sure is for most of us viewers! Your marketing team failed on this one. What a shame….
This was a fantastic show. I believe it didnt get enough advertising. I never saw an advertisement for the show. I too, saw it on Netflix. Maybe NBC should pick it up for renewal. With so many stupid shows on tv…this was an enjoyable one.

It’s refreshing to see healthy-minded entertainment with soulful considerations. We think the actors are very well cast and believable (other than being too consistently laced with great-looking youngsters). Good, wholesome, creative, engaging, thoughtful shows like this one may be too good for culture we mired in. So sorry to see it go!
I just watched season 1 of A Gifted Man on Netflix streaming and I loved it. It’s quality television which, alas, never lasts on network TV. It was for intelligent, thinking and feeling people who like to see something with quality and depth. I would love to see the series continue but if the star doesn’t want it to keep going there’s no way I would want him to continue. I assume I will see Patrick in other movies and shows.
