canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Back in the Game: Season One Ratings

Published: December 12, 2013

Back in the Game TV show on ABC ratingsABC has had very mixed success launching new sitcoms on Wednesday nights. Will Back in the Game be a ratings hit or will it be cancelled after one season? We’ll have to wait and see how things go.

Back in the Game follows a single mother (Maggie Lawson) and her son (Griffin Gluck) who move in with her gruff father (James Caan). Despite having no experience, the boy desperately wants to play baseball so his mom, a former All Star, gets roped into coaching a new team of misfits. Others in the cast are Lenora Crichlow, Ben Koldyke, Kennedy Waite, J.J. Totah, Cooper Roth, and Brandon Salgado.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

How are your shows doing in the ratings? Check the current rankings:
A&E | ABC | AMC | Bravo | CBS | CMT | The CW | FOX | Freeform | FX | FXX
Hallmark | HBO | History | MTV | NBC | OWN | Showtime | Starz | Syfy | TBS
TNT | TV Land | USA Network | WGN America

11/2 update: ABC has cancelled this sitcom but all 13 episodes are expected to air.

12/12 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings in context.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.

What do you think? Do you like the Back in the Game TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a second season?

Why would they cancel back in the game? It’s clearly better then the Goldberg or trophy wife shows that came out around the same time

Very upset that this great comedy- one of the best written — is cancelled. Please bring it back.

I loved Back In The game! I am very upset that ABC decided to pull the plug so soon. It was a great show to watch. Maggie Lawson and James Caan were great together and the boys were great as well. It was not the typical ‘last to first’ sports story, but it did deserve more episodes than it got.

Not sure why this show got the boot, when it is doing better than most of the other shows on the network.

I hope this show gets cancelled if only to free up Maggie Lawson for more Psych.

She will be in four of the 8 episodes (now 10) planned for this year – the first this December when she is in the muscial episode. Then her filming commitment to Back in the Game precludes her involvement for the rest of Season 8 on Psyche. The problem is, this is the last season – so the cancelation of Back in the Game has absolutely no impact on her appearance on Psych. She is just not available soon enouh for that show. She will have to get picked up elsewhere if you want to see her on TV again.

This show is absolutely awful and i hope it gets cancelled. If this slide in the ratings continues hopefully it will. FYI in the 18-49 ratings (which are what really count) it is NOT the highest rated new comedy on ABC, actually “Super Fun Night” is. In the 18-49 ratings it is performing very poorly indeed when you consider that it has “The Middle” as lead in which gets over 2 million more viewers than Back In The Game, and then “Modern Family” which airs after this trash and blows it out of the water. More than 2 million viewers… Read more »

Wrong on a number of accounts. First, Maggie Lawson is only in four epsiodes of Psych in it last year (Season 8 – a total of 10 episodes are filmed). She will be in the first episode which is the Musical Psych this December on USA, and three more episodes in 2014. The other 6 – she will not be in those. Back in the Game’s 13 episode order filmed during that time (filiming just ended last week for Back in the Game). The numbers are right, but Maggie Lawson will just be off the air until she finds another… Read more »

This show is getting funnier and funnier with each episode. Hope the ratings improve. It does have the highest viewership of any of their new comedies. Hope it sticks around. Ratings might not be through the roof, but look at Last Man Standing! It just needs to get its following! It’s a great show!

With the baseball theme I think it would’ve better as a summer show. Kinda nice to have something to watch besides repeats all summer.

I didn’t expect to like it based on the story outline. But, it is very funny and has real potential. Give it a try!
