As expected, ABC has cancelled their summer series Black Box after one season of 13 episodes, reports EW.
Black Box revolves around a beautiful and brilliant neuroscientist (Kelly Reilly) who’s hiding the fact that she’s bipolar. The rest of the cast includes Ditch Davey, David Ajala, Terry Kinney, Ali Wong, David Chisum, Laura Fraser, Siobhan Williams, and Vanessa Redgrave.
The series debuted in late April to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.87 million viewers. It was a mediocre start for the dramatic series and the numbers got progressively worse as new episodes were released. Towards the end of its 13 episode run, Black Box dropped to a 0.6 demo rating with 3.72 million.
The last two episodes aired on July 24th, leaving the main character’s professional fate up in the air.

As usual these network executives have ASOLUTELY NO IDEA when they have a good show on their hands—seems they are only interested in science fiction now a days! BLACK BOX was one of the most fascinating shows I have seen in a long time and it is a shame they cancelled it! BRING BACK BLACK BOX!!!! If anyone knows where there are petitions to be signed to save this show please let me know! I guarantee I will definitely not be watching very many ABC shows from now on!!!!
Hate to tell you, but the networks frankly don’t give a damn about petitions or viewers comments! I participated in several petitions for cancelled shows….. It was a complete waste of time!!!! And don’t try to understand the ratings because you will only bash your head into a wall! There are programs with way worse ratings than Black Box and they are renewed! That is why I have become an advocate for services like NETFLIX when it comes to serial programs……I can trust that I will get a complete series and not get the rug pulled from under me.

I loved the The Black Box ,why do networks cancel a show way to soon .when it’s only starting out I mean come on it’s been only the first season and we left off and you are a big network ,do you really want to deal with people boycotting ABC because not enough railings .I mean you left things with the season with everything up in the air. Coming from someone who deals with being Bipolar every day ,it was great to see a Nerosurgen deal with it . PLEASE BRING THE BLACK BOX BACK!!
I completely agree!!! I have a daughter with a neuro condition and this show was really interesting to me….. PLEASE BRING BLACK BOX BACK!!!
PS: Take this puppy to Netflix. You can really get into the true grit of Bipolarism and science of the brain if you can get more complicated and graphic.
I’d binge watch this for sure!! It was too cutting edge for ABC. It was easy to see they had to tone down, compromise and edit so much it took away from the intended premise for Disney.
Too many cigar-chopping decision makers who look at money as their first incentive over there.
This show was tossed around like a rag doll. Time changes and really poor promotion.
I honestly think it would do quite well on a cable channel like FX or AMC.
I also think the pace could have been slowed down a bit to delve deeper into the characters .
I never believed the relationship between the two main/chief protagonists. Lousy chemistry! A chef with a neuroscientist?When would they ever have time for one another?
She needed to be married to her job… with manic-infused encounters. That would have kept ’em watchin!
I love this show very much. they should have gave it another shot. Its hard to find good ones to stay attached to when they keep canceling them or even putting then on random breaks.

These clowns do this ALL the time; A Gifred Man (CBS) The Cape (campy); The Event (NBC); Intelligence (CBS) ALL GONE!
GARBAGE exists tho…The Voice; The Bachelor and the ‘ette; Big Brother;American Idol etc…all a P.O.S.
I loved Black Box. There are doctor shows out there but not like this one. I agree with someone earlier who said let it go to cable. The networks really don’t give shows a chance with only 13 episodes.
We didn’t even get through the first episode. It was awful.

I hate when they really don’t give a show more to time on ABC and rest of network channels. That is why I watch more cable shows. TNT is a good channel.

you know, I’m kind of glad people are cutting the cord. Maybe these major networks will smarten up and stop doing that stuff. How do they expect us to get involved in anything if after 10 episodes it’s finished. It’s like reading the old dimestore novels novels, it leaves you wanting more, but knowing that will probably never happen. I loved Black Box. Too often the networks put new shows up against old established series. Put this series in a time slopt the makes sense. Not everyone stays up until 11pm!!!
