Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I recently just discovered Cedar Cove series on Netflix. I truly enjoyed all three series. I enjoyed it so much that I watch all three series in two days. I really liked the town’s theme of a small town and how it made me feel to want to be in a community such as this. Not many TV series or TV shows holds my attention or interest for at least one series. But, Cedar Grove did. I truly enjoyed this. I hope Season 4 could happen in the near future.
I loved Cedar Cove and was crushed when it ended! I so wish the producers would decide to film another season!
I love this show…so disappointed that it was cancelled.
I love the show and am sad that it was cancelled. Unfortunately there aren’t many great shows like cedar cove to watch.
I think it should be back on tv. This show is what got me started watching the hallmark channels. Now except for Tuesday and Friday when I watch cbs, all I watch is hallmark or hallmark movies & mysteries.
Hey Hallmark, are you reading the thousands of comments imploring you to bring back the series? What’s wrong with you people? You certainly have a heart since your movies reflect that. You have picked up a huge new audience thanks to Netflix. Be a little more selective with the times that it airs and the audience will be there to watch. You know what and how it needs to be done, just do it!
I will never understand why Cedar Cove was canceled. The best show on cable
I loved the show and I’m so heart broken that it was cancelled. Please re consider bringing it back! It was a GREAT show!
I am very disappointed that they won’t be coming back for a 4th season. I have all of my family watching it from coast to coast. Please reconsider. Great. Family show.
Please bring back
Yes, please bring it back even as a Netflix show. It is so unfinished. I do think it is funny that Andie’s hair is always little up.
I have read the books and thought the cedar cove would make a wonderful tv series. I was very disappointed to find out the old not be any future episodes. This was my favorite and watched it on Netflix.
I just discovered Cedar Cove on Netflix and love it! It’s refreshing to watch a show without foul language and bedroom scences. I wish it could have been wrapped up better, why couldn’t they have added even a few more episodes for closure? What was Olivia’s answer to Paul???
I hate that this show was cancelled. I loved this series and was waiting for the new season to start. Why cancel a good thing? It just doesn’t make any sense.
I discovered Cedar Cove and have fallen in love with the characters. I am so disappointed that it has been canceled. I’m just adding my 2 cents in the hopes that the network would reconsider.
Very sad that it got cancelled.
Would be nice if it came back to tie up the loose ends.
Which books correspond to which tv show? Would love to be able to read the ending at least?
