Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
They should have at least had a final season instead of just stopping. I can’t believe more viewers watch their endless reruns and Christmas movies in the middle of the summer than watched this show. Thumbs Down to Hallmark on this decision
Did they tell the cast they were being cancelled? This show was good and again another show that has good content and values gets cancelled? disappointing
I work long hours so don’t get much opportunity to watch tv but I finally saw an episode of Cedar Cove and then when I tried to find what channel it is on, it was canceled. So, I bought it on DVD. I am so bitterly disappointed it ended/was canceled. I am also bitterly disappointed that Hallmark canceled Cedar Cove without an ending.
So did I and barely watched tv. I mostly read books with my time and LOVED the book series. I happened upon the show by chance and got hooked on it and thought at the end of the third season everything would have been resolved and ended, then I realized I was looking forward to watching every episode only to find out it got cancelled. Total bummer, I can’t agree with you more. I think they cancelled the show too soon not taking into consideration people or either setting the DVR all watching reruns because they weren’t able to watch… Read more »
I fell in love with this series and was devastated at the ending. Terrible way to end a great show. “They” should do a movie so the viewers has closure. I have to know what Olivia’s answer was. I love both Jack and Paul and can see her with either but I’m pulling for Paul.
It was a great series. I think some of the channels forget the demographic they cater to are not the ones watching tv. It is the Seniors and others who are unable to get out.
If you are not going to complete the series it is not fair to start one in the first place.
Yes I can think of a couple not so nice words for hallmarks behavior on doing that. And even if they gave a real reason for canceling it, I think most of us wouldn’t of minded so much. Did somebody quit they couldn’t get Andy McDowell back I mean the truth of course would be nice. But just ending yet leaving questions unanswered- is not at all professional. So disappointed is a kind a nice word I think it sucks. And even though it’s a few years late how about a real answer why did they cancel..?
I always like the Cedar Cove series. Part of the problem was that there was too much time between shows to keep it connected. I would like a 4th season or at least a movie follow-up to at least put some closure for the characters.
It was such a wonderful show. Can’t believe it was canceled. Beautiful scenery, lots of love all around. You guys just pulled it.
How will we ever know if Jack and Olivia rekindle that special love they had??????
My wife and I loved Cedar Cove, since we are big fans of the San Juan Islands it made it even better. Hope to see it come back.
Sure wish Cedar Cove could come back ! My husband and I miss it so much!
I miss Cedar Cove so much. It is not fair to end it the way it did. It leaves you in suspense. It was my favorite series. Bring it back please. Is there a book that shows ending?
I want another season and loved it
Was really looking forward to season 4.
I think the show should return.
I love the story lines and the actors all make this show work.
Please, reconsider a fourth season to tie up all the loose ends!
Very disappointed in the cancellation of cedar cove. I was still in the middle of season three and it’s gone. You can’t let it end this way give another season and give fans at least some closure. It was nice and refreshing to watch. Please reconsider
I was hoping that Cedar Cove would continue on. I loved all of the cast members and really got connected to their lives. To leave Paul and Olivia on on the dock with unanswered questions was devastating to all of us regular viewers. Agreeing with many others: I do hope they reconsider their plans for filming in that beautiful little town.
I am very disappointed to hear that Cedar Cove will not continue for another season. It was a refreshingly fun, clean and uplifting show. We need more of them in a world of turmoil. I hope they reconsider.
