canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Chuck: What Did You Think of the Last Episode?

by Trevor Kimball, January 27, 2012

Chuck series finaleAfter five seasons and narrowly escaping being cancelled several times, Chuck has come to an end. Tonight, NBC aired the final two episodes of the underdog TV series that got a true series finale — one that you’d hope that any beloved show could get.

As promised, the finale hearkened back to the early days of the series and provided more than a few references to the early episodes. Chuck was determined, in his old geeky way, to bring Sarah back to her senses. He did but she still didn’t have her memories.

A bomb that was attached to the General’s chair at the opera house would go off as soon as the musical performance (thanks to Jeffster and Morgan conducting) stopped. Given the choice to use Intersect himself to diffuse the bomb or use it to restore Sarah’s memories, Chuck of course makes the hero’s choice. He saves the day, at the cost of losing what he’d built with his true love.

For any longtime viewer, it would be tough to hold back tears as the trio disbanded, first Casey and then Sarah left Chuck standing alone.

Still, there were plenty of happy events. The Jeffster guys are offered a big record deal with a German music company. Subway (a longtime Chuck sponsor) buys out the Buy More. How fitting. Morgan moves in with Alex. Ellie and Captain Awesome move to Chicago to work at a hospital. Casey goes after Verbanski.

The series ends with Chuck finding Sarah on their beach, still confused. He tells her that he’ll always be there for her, whatever she does and wherever she goes. She responds by asking him to tell her a story. And he does, recounting the events and details of their time together over the last five years. They share a lot of laughter and tears.

Chuck then says, “Morgan, has this crazy idea… He thinks that with just one kiss, you’ll remember everything.” She asks, “One magical kiss?”

He says, “Yeah…” Sarah quickly responds, “Chuck… kiss me.” And he does, and they kiss over and over on the beach, as the camera pulls back and the scene fades to black. End of series.

What do you think? Were you satisfied by the Chuck series finale? Was there anything missing?

I was so depressed by the first half… But the start of the second felt like the “old” Chuck… Laughed my head off at all the references to history… The Mexican restaurant, tango at at Russian Embassy and our cutie hot dog selling “fraulien” … But the tears kept coming. Hated seeing Chuck begging for what he so deserved and thought he had found…. Guess I had mixed feelings in the end…. But somehow, keeping the too perfect fantasy of a “normal” life at bay was fitting. After all, Chuck didn’t come alive by being normal, now did he?

Actually I thought they left it in a good place, where there was hope that Sarah might either recover her memory or grow to love Chuck again. I do however hate that the show ended…. seems like every show I like gets canceled and replaced with some kind of reality crap TV….. pretty soon there won’t be any good television anymore, just a bunch of morons trying to get famous.

Tbh you’re always going to be sad about a show like this ending. if it had wrapped it up neater. It leaves it open. But here’s what happened. in the last scene chuck and sarah fell in love all over again which is a wonderfull way to end it. With or without there memories they’ll make it work. Life always goes on there will always be more stories to tell you, couldn’t wrap it up neater. But we know that chuck and Sarah’s love is strong enough to last through anything. Chuck gets back the intersect, just in case the… Read more »

I have never missed an episode. Chuck was far better a series than the majority of the crap airing now. Big mistake with the series ending. Chuck getting the intersect back is exactly what everyone wants to see more of.

Unlike many who seem to be disappointed with the finale I liked it. Jeffster gets a chance to take over Germany with their music. Morgan and Alex move in together. Ellie and Devon move to Chicago for their dream jobs. Mom Bartowski is well. Sub Way buys the Buy More. Casey is going after his true love. And Chuck and Sarah, well they get to fall in love all over again. Something that I know would be just as good, if not better the second time. Perhaps we’ll get lucky enough to have a Chuck movie that checks in with… Read more »

I am not surprised that the end was frustrating. The show has been a pain in the neck with the relationship issues between Chuck and Sarah. A good finale would have them finally just happy together. No memory loss.

I am so disapointed in the ending… yes having Sarah loose her memory pulls you in, but I mean would it have hurt them to just give us the satisfaction that at the end she gets it back some how…..they really need to have like just a little season to bring it all together better. Because I would have been better off with the ending of the 4th season and just not have them do a 5th…to upseting.

I enjoyed the last episode and found it emotional for me. It’s hard to believe that you could get wrapped up emotionally about a TV show. Somehow the actors and writers were able to tap into something that grabbed me. I will miss the show and the cast. Friday nights won’t be the same without “Chuck”.

I enjoyed the last 2 episode night… We all have some good memories, tears and laughs. Our show lasted longer than I am sure anyone at the network thought it would last. It sucked when they moved kept moving the time and having money for that show one year and then the next year they do not want to show the episodes on their site anymore. Our show survived many shows…Heroes to name one, who ever thought that would happen and the audience would not quit and from watching that channel it felt the netwrork was changing the kind of… Read more »

I am not happy about the final two episodes at all! This show was one of mine and my husband’s favorites, we NEVER missed an episode. That is why I was concerned that the ending had to come….let alone that Sarah would lose everything that Chuck and her built thru the whole series. What happened to the white picket fence, the giving up spy work, the having a family…a normal life. The only part of the final episode that made me feel someone hopeful is the fact that the group was told if they ever wanted to save the world… Read more »

We have supported this show from the start and I feel that the writers totally dropped the ball by leaving it ‘ up in the air’ for Chuck and Sarah. A happy ending was what all true Chuck fans would have wanted , and we didn’t quite get that. Sometimes letting the viewer decide for themselves what happens will work…not here. There better be an online movie follow-up or something to that effect or Chucks’ legacy will be tarnished… ( at least in my mind…am I bitter ? Yes! )
