canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Commander in Chief: Geena Davis President Will Return

by Trevor Kimball, June 23, 2006

Commander in Chief will returnAs you may know, Commander in Chief starred Geena Davis as female President Mackenzie Allen. The series started off strong in the ratings but was then plagued by production issues which resulted in declining viewership.

Soonafter ABC announced the cancellation of the struggling freshman series, word came out that Chief and the show’s characters may return in the form of a made-for-tv movie. ABC chief Steve McPherson was reportedly in talks with seriescreator Rod Lurie and hoped that a decision would be reached over the summer. Well, it looks like we won’t have to wait that long.

In an appearance last night on ABC’s late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live, guest Geena Davis announced that there would indeed be a two-hour movie. She didn’t offer any further details but fans of the White House drama are elated.

The actress was on the show promoting the upcoming Commander in Chief season one release on DVD. Davis joked that she refused to step down out of office, has been storing the White House sets in her garage and has been filming scenes for Chief just in case. Who says that politics can’t be funny? How can a network justify scuttling such a wonderful show. Why in the world didn`t CBS put it on the air they are the only network that seems interested in shows that show some orginality. Please don`t tell me this is just the good old boys not being able to see a woman in a position of authority-even in TV land. My faith in the ABC network managers are way DOWN. When we look at the offerings there is nothing on ABC. The cheap reality garbage. Most are not worth the time.

I HOPE THERE IS ANOTHER NETWORK WITH THE COURAGE
TO FIND A SPOT FOR THE BEST T.V. SHOW, TO COME ALONG
IN YEARS, (COMMANDER IN CHEIF). I HOPE THIS SHOW
SHAKES UP THE POLITICAL BOYS CLUB FOR YEARS TO COME,
LIKE IT DID LAST YEAR.

I like all of the others cannot believe ABC would cancell such a wonderful show. Most of what is on tv these days is an insult to one’s intelligence and mindless crap!! So when a show that offers true entertainment and acting comes along it is a tragedy to see it handled the way ABC has done “Commander in Chief” Until this I was becoming a fan of ABC but not anymore.

I cannot believe that such a great show, which so many people loved is being cancelled. It reminds me of Monk and how it got cancelled and now it is doing better than it every did. Someone definitely did not do their job when it came to placing it in a time slot as it kept jumping around. If it were cancelled because of dwindling viewers, perhaps if it were given a continuous time slot then a reasonable assessment for it’s viewers could be collected. This is ridiculous- Next time be consistent and ask the public before you make the… Read more »

I rarely watch network television. TNT, SCI-FI, History, Comedy, and National Geo. channels are where I spend my time when I turn on the “boob tube.” What brought me back to network TV was Desperate Housewives; Grey’s Anatomy; Extreme Home Makeover – Sunday nights and on Tuesday nights was Commander and Chief. I didn’t miss an espisode. I couldn’t wait for Tuesday night. Geena Davis and Donald Sutherland – perfect cast members – top caliber actors. The show was just excellent! Well written! At work, co-workers would meet and discuss the various espisodes. Then it went off, then I couldn’t… Read more »

I can’t believe such a wonderful show was cancelled. How often do we get a show with such caliber, and acting abilities. Come on, ABC–get a gripe!

Not very often does a show of this caliber come along! There is so much junk and reruns on TV, why not let us see it on Friday or Saturday when nothing is on???? I’ve been disgusted with ABC before, but this time it’s more than just being disgusted. I may very well quit watching EVERYTHING on ABC, even the soaps I’ve watched from thier very begining!

great, now we’re going to get stuck with another reality based show in place of a great show like Commander In Chief. I really can care less who can dance and who can’t or who can survive on an island for 30 days just on water.

BRING BACK QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT!

It has been a very long time since a TV show has pulled me in, until Commander in Chief. The last time was ER. I have never missed an episode of ER. Then with all the confusion of CIC, as to, will it be on this week, what night will it be on, I still found myself fratically looking for it in the TV guide. It is a good All American Show and it was without sex and nudity. WOW ! I remember for months before ER actually premiered on TV, the commmercials for it already had me counting down… Read more »

COMMANDER IN CHIEF WAS THE BEST SHOW THAT HAD COME ALONG IN A LONG TIME. IT WAS ABCs SORRY MISTAKE TO TAKE IT OFF FOR MONTHS THEN PUT IT BACK ON AT ANOTHER NIGHT AND TIME. NO ONE KNEW WHEN TO LOOK FOR IT BECAUSE ABC DIDNT EVEN ADVIRTISE FOR IT. I SAY PUT IT BACK ON FOR ANOTHER SEASON, ADVIRTISE FOR IT AND GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE ABC! TO ROD LURIE: IF THEY DONT PUT COMMANDER IN CHEIF BACK ON ABC FIND A STATION THAT WILL, SUCH AS FOX THAT MAY ACTUALYY ADVIRTISE AND INFORM PEOPLE OF WHEN IT… Read more »

I am so sorry to see Commander in Cheif. The one year run was so wonderful. I can hardly find a show these days that is not sex related to anything. I was hoping that it would be on for the next 10 years. I really saw potetinal for this show.
