Telly’s Take

Hayley Atwell was charming in Marvel’s Agent Carter but the ratings were lousy and the series was cancelled. I think the network was hoping that her fans would help make Conviction a hit. Unfortunately, the ratings were low to start and they’ve gotten much worse. ABC didn’t order any more episodes beyond the initial 13 episode order. That, combined with the terrible ratings, means that it’s very doubtful that Conviction will survive to see a second season. Unfortunately, we may not get official word from ABC until May. My condolences. Better luck next time, Ms. Atwell.
5/12 update: ABC has officially cancelled Conviction after one season. Details here.

I loved Conviction. It is was a very smart, interesting ,well acting show. The concept the show is such a wonderful change from the regular courtroom prosecuting drams. The production of Conviction is an excellent example of what a very intelligent show should be. What a great loss it would be if, Conviction is cancel.

Actually, while I loved Atwood in her Marvel role, I think she way over-played the bad girl routine on Conviction. She over-acted and completely went over the top as a vixen and it was totally unbelievable, an accusation which might should lie at the feet of the writers, though he laid it on so thick it was intolerable to watch at times.

Networks simply don’t give shows time to find an audience. For “word of mouth” to get around and let others know “hey this is a good show, watch it”! It was smart, made you think, gave us “moral quandaries” to mull over in our minds, showed the leads as real people w/interesting real life flaws, problems & self destructive behaviors. I looked forward each week to seeing it! Another one bites the dust though, no matter how much it’s wrong, stupid, a waste of ABC’s time, money and efforts. They did even worse to “Time after Time” recently, a late… Read more »

Excellent observation, Mark. My sentiments entirely! This is especially true of any thought-provoking, intelligent, “brain required”, cerebral shows which actually have a plot and are well-thought-out and driven by genius writers. So few brilliant shows….so much garbage!

ABC you suck. You seem to live for reruns of previously aired programs and whenever there is something good and only just getting be ibfo you you pull a stunt like this. Come on!!

What is wrong with ABC. Everytime there is a great show on they cancel after the first season. They’ve done this with several great shows.

I really like this show. Many people binge watch as I just did. Don’t the networks take this into account? Please bring it back. Good idea and good story line.
