canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Emerald City: Cancelled by NBC; No Second Season

by Cindy McLennan, May 5, 2017

Emerald City TV Show on NBC: Canceled, no Season 2 (canceled or renewed?)

It seems Dorothy Gale will return to Kansas. NBC has cancelled the Emerald City TV show. There will be no season two. The fantasy drama starred Adria Arjona, Vincent D’Onofrio, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Mido Hamada, Gerran Howell, Jordan Loughran, and Joely Richardson.

As usual, it comes down to the ratings. The first season of Emerald City on NBC averaged a 0.72 rating in the 18-49 demographic and an audience of 3.02 million viewers. When you compare its ratings to those of other NBC TV shows, the cancellation is understandable.

Emerald City Cancellation Confirmed

While we have been anticipating the Emerald City TV show cancellation for a while, Variety confirmed it, last night.

Emerald City‘s yellow brick road to the airwaves was riddled with potholes. Production on The Land of Oz-inspired drama was supposed to begin in 2014. Although the network planned for a 2015 premiere, creative differences derailed the project.

The Peacock Network eventually reversed that decision. In April 2015, they brought on a new showrunner. Still, it seems they didn’t have much faith in Emerald City, since they scheduled it on Friday nights, and held the premiere until January 2017.

What do you think? Were you a fan of the Emerald City TV series? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed it for a second season? Let us know, below.

I think the show was amazing & do hope it is reconsidered for a 2nd season. The cancellation of the show was extremely disappointing. The spin on the OZ & creativity was new & exciting. I was entranced started from the first episode! This show beyond worthy of broadcast. Please bring this show back!!

I was really disappointed when the show got cancelled. I am so hooked on Emerald City. Why don’t they just give it a chance . I’ve stopped watching NBC coz I was so pissed off. And worst of all the last episode was a cliff hanger. Like who does that. Its not like a show is gonna get 100% ratings over night. Bring it back . The people at NBC are just plain stupid

One of the best shows ever finally a Friday night worth watching tv. Its unreal to me ey cancelled this. One they will regret. It was exciting and different and not a reality or dancing show. Great acting! Excellent spin on Oz. I am very sad to hear this.

Come on NBC. If you don’t wanna run the show, then sell it to another network. I’m so sick of getting drawn into a show by you people and getting an abrupt, cliffhanging end because you have canceled it. The reason it didn’t get the ratings you wanted is because people are tired of getting let down by the series not getting renewed. People are tired of the letdown. I, for one, will be boycotting NBC if this show dies not return. No more let downs NBC. I mean come on, you guys renew all these stupid sitcoms that nobody… Read more »

NBC. A suggestion the next time you decide to outright cancel a second season of a show. Gauge the fans. Its obvious so many would watch it if they could and desire a second season. Especially after the cliffhanger you left it with. Come on maybe instead of throwing in the towel the moment you feel that a show isn’t worth it maybe give people time to discover the show itself. Emerald City brings new life to the OZ world. Bringing actual history and depth of a world so many could only speculate over through other stories. Why were there… Read more »

NBC YOU REALLY ARE PATHETIC…. emerald city started out slow but picked up and turned out to be a great show. Figures you would cancel it after the first season. Well no reason now to turn in NBC

My sister and I really loved “Emerald City”. Such a creative twist on a old classic. The darker tone was refreshing. Didn’t want to see the same old thing. The writing was wonderful. The reimaging of the characters was so slick and gradual that at first I didn’t realize who they were. I loved that. When “Tip” pushed “Jack” and he fell to his supposed death, I had no idea he would become the “Tin Man”, that “Jack” was the scarecrow, and the “Eamonn” was the “Lion”. “Toto” was a German Sheppard! The “Flying Monkeys” were mechanical “Flying Monkeys”! etc.… Read more »
