FREEFORM GREENLIGHTS DEVELOPMENT ON LATE-NIGHT SERIES
WITH COMEDIAN ILIZA SHLESINGER
Freeform takes a bold step into late-night with comedian Iliza Shlesinger and greenlights development on a new late-night series, it was announced today by Karey Burke, executive vice president, Programming and Development, Freeform.
“We were looking for a voice that speaks to and for our audience, and we have found it in Iliza,” said Burke. “We weren’t just looking to get into late-night for the sake of it—it’s Iliza’s brilliantly modern take on culture, relationships, and gender politics that made her vision for a series undeniable to us.”
“A late-night show has been THE goal for me and I’m ready to throw my hat into the ring,” said Shlesinger. “I couldn’t be more excited to work with Freeform because they understand my voice as a comedian and are allowing me the freedom to create something special. I can’t wait to put my stamp on the late-night format.”
The late-night series will feature Iliza’s unique voice that reflects the audience and what’s happening in the moment with a fresh comedic spin. Additionally, this past summer, Iliza premiered her scripted web series Forever 31 on the new ABC app and the series has already been ordered for a second season. Her third Netflix special “Confirmed Kills” premieres on the streaming service September 23, and will be followed by her first national theatre tour “Iliza: The Confirmed Kills Tour.” In spring 2017, Weinstein Books will publish her first book “Girl Logic.”
Part of the Disney|ABC Television Group, Freeform is distributed in 94 million homes. The network connects to audiences and goes beyond entertainment with bold original programming and immersive social engagement. The network delivers a unique mix of quality original and acquired series, plus fan favorite movies and the holiday events “13 Nights of Halloween” and “25 Days of Christmas.” The Freeform app is a service that allows viewers with participating TV subscription services access to 24/7 live viewing of the network, as well as continued on-demand access via a wide array of devices.
