canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

iCarly: Nickelodeon Series Renewed for Season Five

by Trevor Kimball, April 16, 2011

iCarly season fiveNickelodeon has a hit on their hands in iCarly and they have no intention of letting it go. Starring Miranda Cosgrove, the TV series attracted 7.4 million viewers last Saturday. That made it the most-watched cable program of the week and the most-watched kids cable show so far this year. Nickelodeon has just renewed iCarly for a fifth season of 13 episodes.

Created by Dan Schneider, iCarly revolves around Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove), a teenage girl who lives with her older brother, Spencer (Jerry Trainor). In the loft upstairs, Carly and her three best friends — Sam (Jennette McCurdy), Freddie (Nathan Kress) and Gibby (Noah Munck) — create an inventive and popular webcast for kids their own age, complete with comedy sketches, interviews, and advice.

Of the renewal, Marjorie Cohn, Nickelodeon’s President of Original Programming and Development, said, “Our audience will be psyched to get more of what they love — new episodes of their favorite show, iCarly. We are excited to see what Dan Schneider will do next with our favorite characters.”

Despite the big success of the show, one has to wonder if season five will be the end. The previous seasons have all been made up of 20-26 episodes each. Nickelodeon has only ordered 13 installments for season five.

Production on the next round of episodes will begin in May with season five expected to be shot in 2012.

What do you think? Are you a fan of iCarly? Glad to hear it’s been renewed? How long do you think it should realistically continue before the “kids” get too big?

Well I don’t think season 5 will be the end. I think of they have a season 6 that would be the end because I’ve seen the most of the shows for season 5 and it just wouldn’t make cents

No, there is going to be a 6th season, Dan, the one who created the show, confirmed this question asked by a fan on twitter and he said that they’re going to go back to filming early 2012, so probably by august they will finish filming season 5 and around Feb. or March they will film season 6 and most likely that will be there last season.

I hope they find a way to continue it, though at some point, it’ll be too adult for Nickelodeon. The 2 that are likely to go to college can go locally in Seattle. They can also start turning a profit from their webshow (if they haven’t already).

It’s possible, but unlikely, that the show can be “spun off” onto network prime time or Comedy Central. I believe Nickelodeon and CC are owned by the same company. The cast is just too good for Viacom to just let them go.

My daughter loves the series and it’s one of the few kid series I can watch with her and enjoy instead of wanting to claw my eyes out, like some of the “Dingo” channel programming. The movie parodies are actually quite cleaver: The Blowing, the Twilight Series rip-off with the cowboy and idiot girl, and that one that makes fun of Amanda Byrne movies where Carly is constantly falling down and dancing at the end solves everything.

This series should probably wrap up when they graduate. Just how old are the kids in this series?

That was actually what my planned series finale was all about. Meeting Carly and Spencer’s dad. If season 4 was the last season of iCarly, then the “iFinish Out the Show” series finale would premiere on July 2, 2011. It would be about Carly, Sam, and Freddie planning their next webcast of iCarly, then Spencer getting some news that their dad is wrapping up his Navy training and Carly and Spencer getting an offer to live with their dad in Virginia. However, it could mean doing the very last webcast of iCarly. So, this hour-long event could wrap up all… Read more »

I’ve got a feeling that this “5th season” of iCarly will most likely be the last one. In season 1, they’re in 8th grade, season 2, they’re in 9th grade, season 3, they’re in 10th grade, season 4, they’re in 11th grade, and season 5, TA-DA! Carly, Sam, and Freddie’s senior year. I predict that season 5 will be all about Carly, Sam, and Freddie’s senior year. They’ll probably graduate from Ridgeway.

I just love iCarly I never miss it. I am wondering if we’ll ever get to meet Carly and Spencer’s dad after all we met Sam’s and Gibby’s moms. I am also wondering that if the show does end the kids will be leaving for college.
