Long-running syndicated court show Judge Alex has been cancelled. The cancellation was confirmed by Stephen Brown, executive VP of programming and development for the Fox Television Stations.
“We would like to thank Alex Ferrer as well as executive producer Kathy Sapp and the entire staff for producing a strong daytime court program,” said Brown in a statement. “Alex’s extensive police, legal and judicial experience combined with his great sense of humor made for compelling daytime television for nearly 10 years.”
Judge Alex debuted on September 12, 2005 and features cases that are presided over by Judge Alex E. Ferrer, a former police officer, lawyer, and Florida judge.
The series is the lowest-rated of the five remaining court shows and will continue airing original episodes through August.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Ferrer said, “It was not my decision to end the show. I enjoyed doing the show and would keep doing it but, for many reasons, the company that produces the show wanted to move on. I am grateful that I was able to work with really amazing people like my EP Kathy Sapp and Associate EP’s Tera Roberson and James Glover; Directors Eddie October, Michael Dimitch and Art Bergel; Bailiffs Mason Burroughs & Victor Simon, my makeup, hair and wardrobe help that changed me from hideous to tolerable; incredible producers and associate producers who found great cases for me to try and so many others in our 100 person staff and crew who made the show a success. I’m also grateful to have so many great fans and friends, many of whom I got to meet; and I’m sure that I’ll still get to meet more of you at other events.”
He also hinted that he may return to television at some point in the future.
What do you think? Did you like Judge Alex? Are you sorry that it’s been cancelled?
I think he’s the best judge show out of all the ones on the air during the afternoon better than Divorce Court that you have on the air for two hours. On the other hand his comments are funny and entertaining and realistic.
I agree with the comments above – Judge Alex demonstrated knowledge of the law and tempered it with kindness and fairness. Get rid of the scripted make believe judge shows and give up Judge Alex back again!!!
I was surprised to find out that Judge Alex show was cancelled. He is one of the best Judges on the show and wish/hope that he will come back. I do find that at the scheduled time that his show was due to air, I am tuning in only to realise he is not longer on.
I couldn’t believe he was cancelled. He was funny. Respectful. He was one of my husband and I favorite Judge shows. Along with Judge Marilin Malan. We sure hope he returns soon.
I miss the show terribly!
I always that he was the best TV Judge, even better than Judge Judy.
What’s wrong with this world?
Was he too good for some people?
I miss Judge Alex. Please bring him back to television.
Bad move. The replacement show is nothing but a bunch of bad actors, it’s all scripted.
Do you mean the Judge Judy instigated new show The Hot Bench? Is that scripted?
No, the new Judge Judy produced show “The Hot Bench” is not scripted. She saw a show like it in England and liked the idea. I did not expect to like it, but I do, except for the music. The heavy drama music has GOT to go. I would prefer Judge Alex, but I think there should be room for both — get rid of Divorce Court, or one of the scripted court shows.
Thanks. That is what I thought. I had read about it so I finally discovered it over Cox Cable on channel 13 which is an independent channel that had previously carried the Judge Alex show. That surprised me because I had read that the new show was being produced by CBS so I expected to find it on channel 8 via Cox in the San Diego area but it is not on channel 8. At the end of the show, I looked for the tell tale disclaimer that reveals it is a scripted fake judge show but I couldn’t see… Read more »
I am very sorry to hear about the cancelation of Judge Alex. I adored watching him. He is a very attractive man. More importantly, I think his time slot was the issue and not his program. In my area, he came on at 2pm. Too early for the first shifters and too late for second shifters. Housewives are more interested in daytime dramas. I think if you give him a better time slot, his ratings would soar! At this time, there are only 2 programs such as this that I try to watch regularly. It was Judge Judy and Judge… Read more »
This is terrible! Judge Alex is the only court show I watch. He is amazingly perceptive and fair! Hope they renew this show.
I am so sorry to hear this. I usually do not like these kind of shows, but I enjoyed him. He was funny and intelligent plus he really knew the law. Making the right decision came before being entertaining the public and as a result, it was a show with class. Bad idea Fox, but then–that has become typical for you guys!!! Hope to see him back soon!!!
He was the only one I watched. I hope one of the other networks pick Him up.
Rosie
That was the worst move the network has ever ever made, the new show is the worst I have ever seen on TV. Get rid of them now, they are boring. Who needs 3 judges to try one case?
I enjoyed how he handled the idiots who game before him. Amazing that these people are allowed to vote.
Renewed!!! Please renew Judge Alex’ show!
I always looked forward to Judge Alex. I watched it almost everyday, even reruns. Was shocked to hear it was not coming back. Not much left of my daytime TV watching. Would be glad to watch other networks if he comes back.
