canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Jeff Goldblum Out; Going to Be Cancelled?

by Trevor Kimball, August 4, 2010

Jeff Goldblum on Law & Order: Criminal IntentIt’s not a great time for fans of all-things Law & Order. Though a new series, Law & Order: Los Angeles, is coming in the fall, the original Law & Order was cancelled after 20 years on the air. Now, things don’t look good for Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

The spin-off series follows investigations of high-profile cases. The show moved from NBC to USA Networks in 2007. Up until last year, it starred Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe. The show currently stars Jeff Goldblum, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Saffron Burrows.

The future of Criminal Intent has been up in the air for awhile as the cable channel tried to decide how they wanted to proceed (if at all). According to Deadline, a number of scenarios were bandied about, including a full-season pickup, a two year renewal, and a partial season pickup. They’ve apparently settled on an eight episode “mini-season” for the show’s (likely) final season. Some of the original cast, like D’Onofrio, may be asked back.

Should Criminal Intent continue?

Meanwhile, Goldblum has decided to exit the series. His contract has expired and, according to his representative, has decided to walk away rather than renegotiate because of the uncertainty of the show’s future.

Actually, all of the actors’ contracts have reportedly expired. They ran out at the end of June and were then extended until the end of July. When/if Criminal Intent returns for a 10th season, that could mean that Goldblum won’t be the only castmember missing.

USA is likely to make a final decision on Criminal Intent’s fate within the next week.

What do you think? Should Criminal Intent be renewed for a 10th season or should it be cancelled? Would you be satisfied with the ninth season finale, “Three in One,” being the series finale?

I never understood why they went to usa, to begin with, and then why did they let Vincent, and Katherine go?? I did appreciate the alternating program… I think that Jeff g, did a good job., but, its not easy or fair to try to replace what was working so well, I would like to see,
the return of Vincent, and Katherine. Its sad that some of the old standards, are leaving and being replaced by garbage….

Why is everybody hating on jeff goldblum.Im glad he joined the cast and i liked it when Kat and Vince would alternate every other week it was like getting two shows for the price of 1.I amit the writers got a little lazy because they were busy tring to end the original and shoot the pilot for the L.A. one thats a lot of work since they treat CI like the red headed step sister or Jan from the brady bunch because NBC has deeper pockets than what USA is paying for this show

I loved this show until they re did the WHOLE cast I mean come on if it’s not broken don’t fix it. With all those new people I think the show SUCKS now it’s to bad though that they will get canceled because of it though but maybe they will learn not to mess with something that is good….

Bring back Vincent D. For a complete season! Law and Order: Criminal Intent with Goren is the best show on television. Do not cancel!!

I’m so happy to hear Goldblum is leaving. Now if they can rid of his partner and the totally nothing Captain, maybe we could start with something good.

Bring back Logan and Nichols. Get Goren and Eames in for a few appearances. And let Rogers, the medical examiner, continue to have a bigger role.

While I would like to watch reruns of the Goren/Eames and Logan/Nichols episodes, I no longer record LOCI, in protest of the really mediocre last season. It makes me sad. It was a show I used to look forward to.

I love Law & Order CI and have watched from the beginning. I began primarily for Vincent and Kathryn, but have really enjoyed Jeff Goldblum. It is the best show he has been on since the Jurassic Park movies. Keep Jeff and Saffron, they work well together. I was getting used to Mary Elizabeth as well. I will miss the show very much.

I think it ended when Vince and Kathryn left. Jeff is great-I am a huge fan-he did his best, but no one could replace Goren and Eames because they were classic characters. The way they were written out was criminal in itself, and they deserved better. I think we fans deserve to at least have a wrap-up that will give us closure and not leave us disappointed like the “Loyalty” (?) episode did. LOCI deserves to go out with a bang-not a whimper! I don’t blame Jeff for leaving-he deserves much better too.

Kill it….. KILL IT WITH FIRE!!! I think what we are seeing is a shift in what the average viewer wants to see. The Law & Order series and it’s spin-offs follow the same formula and it appears that the viewing audience is just tired of it all. I think in the next few years we will see the whole CSI/NCIS/CBS crime drama formula implode in a similar matter. After all, remember when primetime was littered with sitcoms like Home Improvement? A Sitcom like Home Improvement could not survive even on a third-rate network like The CW today. Let this… Read more »

Yes. It should continue. When the original just got canceled, maybe theres a new one coming, but Criminal intent should stay on. Just bring someone else in. Come on USA.

I think the series finale should have D’onofrio and Erbe–they were the show, but at the very least let D’onofrio do his psycho routine a few more times–I wish they woulkd have continued the one where he checked into the mental hospital-they just dropped that story with the nephew
