Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

My husband and I loved this show too!! He’s been asking when it’s gonna start again. Please don’t take it off the air. The cast was great the story lines were interesting. It’s an excellent show!! I agree that it’s true–some shows need extra time to get into. But this was good from the start. Looking forward to a third season soon.
some shows need a little time to find they’re place. It’s akin to csi and such.
I hope I see a season 3 soon.
Great show! More interesting than most of the other crap on TV. Keep it!!!!
I just watched the first season …. have to admit really liked it at the beginning but by show number 11 i was bored.
…. no suspense, no tension
…. it’s got the 70’s/80’s Moonlighting formula of a happy ending at every episode
…. no chemistry between the lead actors…
My husband and I love this show. Don’t take it off the air. We look forward to Monday nights for House and Lie to Me.
Love the show. The only show on TV my husband and I both enjoy. Hope it returns soon.
Lie to Me is a great show. Just when I was really getting into it, it was no longer on. I really hope it returns and can’t wait.
Lie to me is hands down the best drama from FOX and probably the best drama thats on right now, even though they put it on hitatus. Every week I look forward to Lie to me and see a human lie dectctor at work. Tim Roth is absolutely excellent playing Cal Lightman. Maybe fox should averrtise a tab bit better like american idol you know but shove it down peoples throats.
I love this show and hope it will make me more excited.Great show!
I love this show and hope it will continue. Maybe another night or time spot would help ratings improve. This show has more depth and holds my interest much more than many of the other current show. Please keep the episodes coming.
Great show, been waiting impatiently for it to return
Love the show.
I love the show! It’s clever and different. I am looking forward to more episodes & hope it stays on tv for a long time.
I love this show. We have been waiting and waiting to see when it will return. Fox will be making a huge mistake if they don’t bring this show back. Some shows need to build it’s audience before becoming a “hit”. This show can and will do that if given the chance. Great characters and the actors have great chemistry.
great show looked up to see when it would be back.Caught my interest and kept it
My wife and I love this show. I just had to check on line to see if it was coming back on. Fox has some great shows like Lie to Me and Fringe. Each episode of Lie to Me was always so interesting. Please keep this show on the air. As someone else said previoiusly, they keep such stupid shows on that don’t make sense and this one always stirs my imagination and interest.
