Lone Star: FOX TV Show Cancelled After Two Episodes

by Trevor Kimball, September 28, 2010

Lone StarWe all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.

Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.

The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.

Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.

Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.

Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.

What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?

UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

Please people, use proper grammar if you want them to take us seriously. I can’t understand half these posts…

The show could of been good. The problem with the show was that it is way too hard to understand what the heck was going on. They played it out too fast. The fact that James Wolk wanted to stop conning in the first episode was stupid. He should of at least had no remorse for the first season… Actors were GREAT, writing was BAD.

I am ticked off! I REALLY REALLY liked this show. And I don’t believe at all that they advertised and got the buzz out about this show. I only watched it because my sister happen to mention it one day. Other than I hadn’t even heard about it. I watched both episodes. I haven’t seen writing or acting this good in a while. And I was already relating to the main character. One minute I hated him for two timing 2 women but then he would do something so caring that you thought he might be have hope for redemption.… Read more »

I watched both episodes of the show and was eager to see the rest. It is a provocative show that kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters were interesting and engaging. I don’t understand why it would be canceled.

This show was really interested and different and had some great acting. It was the only one of the new shows where I really looked forward to seeing what would happen in the next episode. I just can’t understand how they can hype a show so much and then cancel it after two episodes. And they accuse the audience of attention-deficit?!? Once again we’re going to be left with nothing but same-old-thing-every-week procedurals, (be they police, law, or medical). Guess I’ll just tune out for another season.

I thought it was ok, i watched the whole episode an i was going to watch it this week. Am i upset that it was cancelled? No because i only saw one show. It had some potential, but with all the other series that are out its going to be hard to compete. I like the actor (star) maybe if there was some action or more drama it could be a hit. needed a little boost in the beginning to get people to watch it. thats what it was missing.

I hope the show will be brought back. It had so many fantastic, intriguing ways for the show to go. Can’t believe Fox took this show off without really giving it a chance. Some of us actually like shows like this one which plays out like a novel and keeps us “hooked” wondering what will happen next. I hate reality shows. I loved this show.

(Granted, I’m over 50) I thought the series was great. It was much more interesting than any new drama I’ve seen new this season. Really, I can’t stand lame pretend contest shows, so I guess I don’t seem to matter to the powers at be. Anyway, I think
they dropped the ball this time by cancelling so soon.

I thought the lead actor looked like he could double for George Clooney, his mannerisms were identical to Clooney’s. There has not been a show like this one, I am not sure they gave it a chance. I liked the show.
