Lone Star: FOX TV Show Cancelled After Two Episodes

by Trevor Kimball, September 28, 2010

Lone StarWe all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.

Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.

The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.

Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.

Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.

Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.

What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?

UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

I loved the show and don’t understand why the networks go head to head for a time slot when it means the demise of one of them. The Event was highly promoted so people had to make a choice. I was lucky enough to have two means to record so I saw both but liked Lone Star better. They were all solid characters with a very complex and interesting plot.

I think that the first episode started off sort of slowly, which is probably why some didnt even watch the end of the first episode. I feel that if the writers would have written a more exciting dramatic first episode that the serious would have done much better. I liked the show and was disappointed when I saw that it wasn’t going to be on anymore. The writers didn’t do a very good job in cathcing everyones attention initially.

Bad decision. It was a great show, exciting plot and good actors. It’s a shame that they only aired 2 episodes, that doesn’t seem fair at all. It’s THE only show I was hooked on from the start of the 1st episode and was so looking forward to more. Well, I can only hope that they decide to air the the other unaired episodes.

It was just getting good and it gets canceled. It was better than the Event. That show is hard to follow. At least Lone Star had a good story line. Perhaps a different time slot would have helped.

I couldnt figure out why my dvr didn’t have the show on the list of things to be recorded. I was upset to discover it had been cancelled. I liked it & thought it was intriguing.

Very bad move. This was a good show, great actors as well. They should’ve given it more than two episodes – I personally don’t watch FOX television very often so I didn’t know which channel to catch it on. I downloaded the episodes from iTunes and was planning to tune in this week…

I am super dissapointed! I loved the show! I don’t think they gave it a fighting chance with only 2 shows.

I can’t believe it. We really loved the show – a new favorite. Unbelievable – after only 2 shows. Come on FOX – what are you thinking – this could have been the new Dallas – or Knots. I am so unhappy.
