ABC had high hopes for Off the Map, their new medical drama from veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned and ABC has now cancelled Off the Map after one season on the air.
Off the Map follows the lives of six doctors who have “lost their way” and have traveled to a remote South American jungle to try to rediscover why they wanted to become physicians.
The TV series’ cast includes Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The TV series premiered to a disappointing 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The show won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. As a result, ABC reran the premiere Off the Map the following night.
For whatever reason, subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Despite having some very passionate fans, Off the Map ended up being one of the lowest dramas on ABC. It’s no surprise then that the network has now decided against ordering a second season, cancelling the show. All 13 episodes have aired and we likely won’t find out what became of the young doctors left in the jungle.

NO!! I LOVE THIS SHOW AND SO DO ALOT OF MY FRIENDS, WHY DO GOOD SHOWS ALWAYS COME TO AN END AND JERSEY SHORE IS STILL ON
i loved the show, was getting kind of bored with greys , it did play late at night but i didnt miss an episode, was so happing to see more. they should really re think this one, it could have been great. lost stayed on longer and for heavens sake it just dragged on.
We Loved to watch “Off the Map” that was the only show I looked forward to watching each week. I always hated that it had to end each week. WHY OH WHY did it get cancelled. Not happy at all 🙁
This serie has just been released in The Netherlands and it is really good. I really like it, so I hope there will be a second season because I really like to know what happens with everyone! Please over think you decission again and make more than one season. Thanks!

I think it was one of the best series on television. I cannot believe it did not have the ratings. Everyone I knew watched it.

Just ridiculous!!! Can’t believe you couldn’t at least give it a second season to see if rating came up!!! Then if they didn’t then make that decision… VERY VERY disappointed!! So much better than all these freaking reality shows that no one cares about… really?? Just a shame..
What a shame to cancel one of the most exciting new shows on TV. I wish the ratings game would give some of theses new items a chance to catch on. I am so sick of reality shows it was great to escape to a new idea with great plots, romance, adventure and all. Sorry to see it go.
This was a great show that my family & I were really looking forward to watching the 2nd season. The people who made this decision are making a huge mistake! This was the best medical show and much more that was on tv last season. Why didn’t they try changing it’s tine slot 1st? What a waste!
Another great show that channel 8 is throwing away did ya ever think that the neilsen company could b wrong its not like your in every home checking ratings its a random pick of households. I would love a redo.

I really enjoyed this program and instead of cancelling this show – I believe ABC should have moved the time slot – if i am not mistaken this NEW program had to compete with American Idol and – so they debuted the show – really at the wrong time – I believe with a better time slot and a different day – it would have done well – It was a good medical show and there was good content as well – it didn’t just focus on medical – but the lives of the doctors as well – it was… Read more »
