It’s no secret that Pan Am has been struggling in the ratings. As a result, ABC decided to order only one episode beyond their initial 13 installment order.
Pan Am is currently one of ABC’s lowest-rated shows and currently averages a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.76 million total viewers. That’s the same as now-cancelled Work It. The most recent episodes have been garnering a 1.2 in the demo, ensuring that the season average will keep dropping.
ABC maintains that the show has not been cancelled and Christina Ricci, the actress who plays Maggie the flight attendant, maintains that a decision won’t be made until May.
In a recent press call, she said, “I don’t really understand the ratings system and how that works or, I choose not to… If I go shopping, the people who work in the stores love the show. When I fly, all the flight attendants love the show. I know friends and family love the show. Most of them didn’t watch it during its time slot. Most of them watched it online or TiVo’d.”
Ricci doesn’t understand why Pan Am’s numbers aren’t better, but said, “I just feel like more and more people towards the end of the season are getting really into it and really saying that every show is better than the last. And that’s good, because you really want a show to have time for development and develop into something really amazing.”
There was hope that the 14th episode would be used to give the ongoing storylines some closure but Ricci says that’s not the case, “If there isn’t a season two, there will be questions that will never, ever, ever be answered.” She concluded, “But, hopefully we will get a season two and no one will know that until May.”
What do you think? Do you think Pan Am producers should have planned to end the show with episode 14 or, leave things unresolved in hopes of a second season?

I enjoy the show, but hope it does not become another Desperate Housewives. I also hope it is not cancelled. Airline flying was FUN in the 60’s.
The show is great and charming, captures spirit of the 60’s, intriging characters, beautiful and talanted cast of actors both male and female, fresh faces on TV… Nice bonus: no blood sprays in your face from the screen! What’s more? I think, the fact that it airs late Sunday night has a lot to with the ratings. People watch the show online or on DVR (or whatever recorder they use). I’d miss this show if it’d get cancelled.
I did not watch this show on TV when it first came out, but now just finished watching all 12 episods online. I could not stop watching them and watched all in 2 days. Lovely show…. please do not cancel it… finally a show that makes you feel good after watching it… so sick of all these murder shows that leave disgusting images in your head.. there are too many of them and this show is a breath of fresh air. I think a second season will bring in even more watcher, people WILL catch on… Please don’t cancel.
Please have a second season of pan am. I love the show
i am a high school student, and my friends and i love this show! it does a great job of mixing the drama and history in a very classy way. I’d be very upset to see the show canceled.
I am devastated. I absolutely LOVE the show (it’s one of my very favorites), and I know so many others feel the same way! PLEASE don’t cancel the show! I watch it on Hulu because I cancelled my cable, but surely that counts as ratings too! Whatever your numbers have told you, you’ve got it wrong.
PLEASE don’t end the show.
They do have the wrong numbers… see i watch it online too so we don’t get counted… People just chose to watch shows when THEY want these days, not when it is actually on TV. That is our lifestyle now. ABC needs to realize this and account for this in their ratings.
just when they put something on worth watching, some idiot decides to cancel
amen
I love this this show such a great cast Please don’t cancel it!!!!!!!!!
Pan Am has a lot of beautiful actors, if you got off the spy/CIA crap and had more stories about the pilots & stewardess, sex and senery from around the world, three-way love plots, etc, you would have a number one show!
I LOVE this show…I hope that it stays!!!!’mm
I hope it stays- I love it and I agree. It just keeps getting better
I Think PanAm should be kept going give it a chance to develop. I find each show interesting and it gives an insight to the 60’s era before mobile phones and social network takes over the world of gadgets.
Give it a chance to become part of our lives.
I agree with Christina Ricci, everywhere I go I talk to people who LOVE the show, so I don’t know how the ratings could possibly be so low. I bought the Pan Am purse online and the demand for it was so high it was back ordered two months. While I would like some closure to the story lines, just because ABC cancels it doesn’t necessarily mean that the show is gone for good. Perhaps it could find a place on basic cable like Southland did. Shows get cancelled so quickly these days that I’m reluctant to even start watching… Read more »
It’s already crashed and burned. Time to pick up the wreckage and move on. It won’t fly again.
It would be nice to have it awarded a second season and an earlier time slot. But the writing is on the wall, and the writers should have provided at least partial closure in episode 14 in the event that the series does not return.
