It’s no secret that Pan Am has been struggling in the ratings. As a result, ABC decided to order only one episode beyond their initial 13 installment order.
Pan Am is currently one of ABC’s lowest-rated shows and currently averages a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.76 million total viewers. That’s the same as now-cancelled Work It. The most recent episodes have been garnering a 1.2 in the demo, ensuring that the season average will keep dropping.
ABC maintains that the show has not been cancelled and Christina Ricci, the actress who plays Maggie the flight attendant, maintains that a decision won’t be made until May.
In a recent press call, she said, “I don’t really understand the ratings system and how that works or, I choose not to… If I go shopping, the people who work in the stores love the show. When I fly, all the flight attendants love the show. I know friends and family love the show. Most of them didn’t watch it during its time slot. Most of them watched it online or TiVo’d.”
Ricci doesn’t understand why Pan Am’s numbers aren’t better, but said, “I just feel like more and more people towards the end of the season are getting really into it and really saying that every show is better than the last. And that’s good, because you really want a show to have time for development and develop into something really amazing.”
There was hope that the 14th episode would be used to give the ongoing storylines some closure but Ricci says that’s not the case, “If there isn’t a season two, there will be questions that will never, ever, ever be answered.” She concluded, “But, hopefully we will get a season two and no one will know that until May.”
What do you think? Do you think Pan Am producers should have planned to end the show with episode 14 or, leave things unresolved in hopes of a second season?

Hate the show.cancel it.
I love Pan Am and would be happy to see the series continue but the time slot needs to be changed. 10 Pm eastern on a Sunday night is a bad spot. If they move it back just one hour I suspect that ratings will go way up.
Do keep it. Love the show! And Christina is right – it has gotten better with each episode.
Agree. I’m in the 18-49 category and really enjoy the show. It’s a shame that a show with so much potential can be compromised by so much talk about cancellation. Really rooting for the show, hope it finds a larger base of support.
I love the shoe and really hope it doesn’t get cancelled. I watch it on demand and hope that doesn’t hurt its ratings!
Please don’t cancel the show. Everybody loves it!
No !!! Please do not cancel Pan Am is brilliant Saturdays will not be the same
Love it
I love this show! I can’t watch the normal time slot because it’s late and I have school in the morning but PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL IT! This show is amazing and I love how it about the 60’s (:
I enjoy yhe show. Don’t camcel it.
I would like to see a season two but in that it is unlikely that will happen I think the writers should have tied up many of the loose ends. To leave a cliffhanger at this point makes the writers seem incompetent to me. Jack Orman has been around long enough to know better. Even tying up some ends like having Laura and Ted get together would provide an ending but would still leave lots of possibilities for the future. The show was doomed from the get go because of all the cancellation talk. Why would people start watching a… Read more »
I’d like to see the show continue to evolve. The story is getting more and more dramatic with each episode and I’m waiting each week to watch how their lives unfold. Keep going for another season then reevaluate the situation!
I LOVE this show DON’T CANCEL
This is one of the best shows on TV. All of my friends and family watch it and we use our DVR. I hope it goes till at least season 2.
I want Pan Am to continue — I like the characters, plotlines, its ability to capture the 60’s.
