Parenthood: Cancelled Over Dispute for Season Six?

by Trevor Kimball, May 9, 2014

Parenthood canceled or season six?Sounds like there’s some trouble over at the Braverman house. Deadline reports that the show may be cancelled over salary and cost-cutting measures.

Airing on NBC since 2010, Parenthood revolves around the lives of the extended Braverman family in Northern California. The ensemble cast includes Lauren Graham, Dax Shepard, Tyree Brown, Joy Bryant, Max Burkholder, Erika Christensen, Miles Heizer, Sam Jaeger, Monica Potter, Savannah Paige Rae, Xolo Mariduena, Mae Whitman, with Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson.

Word is that NBC wants to renew the show for a final season of 13 episodes. To cut costs, the network/studio has asked the large cast to reduce their episode guarantee from 13 to nine episodes. That would mean that they’d potentially only appear in and be paid for nine installments.

Reportedly, they don’t want to do that and the cast and studio are at an impasse. If a deal isn’t reached today, the episode that aired on April 17th may be Parenthood’s defacto series finale.

What do you think? Are you hoping that Parenthood returns for one final season? Would you be okay with everyone not appearing in every episode?

ALL OF THE CAST FOR 22-24 EPISODES. We should we or the cast have to sacrifice? If you’re going to cancel one of the BEST SHOWS ON THE AIR, at least let everyone end on a high, positive note. Of course I would prefer that the show not be taken off the air, period. Please. But, as we’ve all learned, the networks don’t care what devoted fans think.

I have stated many times if NBC can’t resolve this and keep a quality TV show that everyone loves, I am boycotting NBC and the rest of its shows. I think everyone else should do the same. We all need to stick together on this one. Finally a quality TV show about family and they are axing it over money. I am so bitter about this I can’t see straight!!

I’d love to know which cast members are the ones holding out for 13 episodes, and ruining it for all of the viewers and other cast members. Sometimes greed can destroy such a good thing.

I like this show so much and will be very unhappy if there is no final season to “wrap things up”. All of the cast are outstanding actors but if the network won’t pay each of them to be on each show then I hope they will accept 9 episodes for each of them–for the sake of their viewers.

PLEASE don’t take this show off the air!!! I agree with Debra Finn, take the Voice off or move it down to one night or Move Parenthood back to Tuesday night if the ratings have dropped on Thursday! Finally a show that is entertaining and not about violence that the entire family can watch. This show cover life events that most families can relate to and take personally. I can’t tell you how many times something in family life has been projected in this show. I LOVE and look forward to seeing the Bravermans every week. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL… Read more »

Please keep Parenthood alive! It is the only show I look forward to, watch, and DVR!! Aside from the bottle neck of good shows on Sunday night… Why us everything you’d potentially like to watch on at 9 and 10 on Sunday??? Good Wifw, Mad Men, Game of Thrones… Spread these out through the week so we can have a little entertainment in our evenings. Parenthood us enjoyed by everyone in our family and there’s always something to connect to. I think it’s the best show on TV! Stop cheaping out and throwing another night of The Voice or DWTS… Read more »

Excellent show!! I only one I watch. Most realistic show out there. I hate all the shows that try to get a laugh out of you from every line that comes out an actors mouth. Please don’t cancel this one!! Story lines on this show are what people WANT to watch on TV.
