canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Proof: Cancel or Keep the TNT Drama?

by Trevor Kimball, August 18, 2015

Proof TV show on TNT: canceled or renewed for season 2?Tonight marks the season finale of the Proof TV show on TNT. Will this series that’s focused on death manage to stay alive and see a second season? Should this drama be cancelled instead?

On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) recently lost her son, saw her marriage end, and become estranged to her teenage daughter. Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.

The series debuted on June 16th with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. It was a pretty mediocre start for a TNT series. The ratings dwindled downward over the course of the season though they saw a nice bump upward last week.

The season is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.12 million viewers. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and is in the middle of the pack in viewership.

With ratings like these, the cable channel could go either way. It could easily be canceled or renewed. If the finale does particularly well, those ratings coupled with last week’s numbers might be enough to tip the scale towards a renewal. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

But, what do you think? Do you like the Proof TV show on TNT? If you ran the cable channel, would you cancel or renew it for a second season?

It was a malicious policy to put money and industrial benefits in priority and not to think about great things a show can do. Please, change this policy and think for nations’ prosperity. Thank you.

And thanks IRIB ( Islamic Republic Iran Broadcast) for its insightful policy in TV Show Programming.

We hung on each episode. Intelligent, excellent direction and ensemble performing, and totally engaging, this was destination viewing for a lot of us. What a foolish decision to not allow this show to find its footing. This proves once again that mediocrity rules the tube.

Even though I am sending this late, I still want to voice my opinion that I thought the show was good and Jennifer Beals is a plus in anything she does.

As a viewer I’d want it renewed as I loved it. If I ran TNT I’d have to think about it more from a business perspective. ie: Can we sell our advertisers and will there be better shows in next years line up?

It caught my attention right away, such a different twist from the very beginning. After watching the first time I made sure that I recorded it so that I wouldn’t an episode.

If they finally do decide that they are going to cancel it I really hope that another station picks it up and runs with it!

This was a great show, I don’t think one season gave viewers the chance to find it. I thought it was riviting and entertaining like to see a second season. Run reruns in off season so more audience’s can catch it again.
