Tonight marks the season finale of the Proof TV show on TNT. Will this series that’s focused on death manage to stay alive and see a second season? Should this drama be cancelled instead?
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) recently lost her son, saw her marriage end, and become estranged to her teenage daughter. Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
The series debuted on June 16th with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. It was a pretty mediocre start for a TNT series. The ratings dwindled downward over the course of the season though they saw a nice bump upward last week.
The season is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.12 million viewers. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and is in the middle of the pack in viewership.
With ratings like these, the cable channel could go either way. It could easily be canceled or renewed. If the finale does particularly well, those ratings coupled with last week’s numbers might be enough to tip the scale towards a renewal. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Again, why do you start a show then end it after it’s 1st. season? You say it’s about ratings. Well, I believe it’s more about money. With so many new show coming out half of which have no storyline or plot just sex, sex, bood, guts, & explosives used to destroy something or someone. 2 million people are a heck of a lot of people so why can that just be enough.. I think alot more people would of been watching it if it was still on. There wasn’t enough time or advertising about it to really get a following. There are more people interested in life after death then you know. People need to know that there is life after death. Please consider renewing it and bring it back, I miss it.

Good grief! Loved this show! So very disappointed that this show wasn’t renewed. Great storyline…thought provoking! Beats much of the mindless dribble currently on TV.
wow another great show bites the dust because greedy corporate interests can’t wait for it show to find a bigger audience. Sad to say it’s not about quality it’s about ratings.

This show is amazing, it speaks to people of all ages, religion, and race. Death does not discriminate and people who have recently lost a loved one can relate to the question : what happens after. I am very disappointed that TNT was so quick to can a show that clearly spoke to everyone.

I loved this show, I thought it was original and smart, you got to bring it back for another season.
This was a really good show, I cannot believe it was cancelled for the likes of Bones, Castle, The dunk king, good behavior, or charmed, shall I go on? Proof was well written and had great actors.
I am definitely in favor of continuing Proof for another season!!!
