canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Proof: TNT Orders New Supernatural Drama

by Trevor Kimball, May 7, 2014

TNT TV showsTNT has ordered a new supernatural drama called Proof. It will debut some time next year with 10 episodes.

The cast will include Jennifer Beals, Matthew Modine, Joe Morton, Callum Blue, Edi Gathegi, Annie Thurman, Sean Gleeson, and Caroline Rose Kaplan.

Here are some additional details:

TNT Greenlights Supernatural Drama “Proof,” Starring Jennifer Beals

New Series from Executive Producer Kyra Sedgwick Also Stars Matthew Modine and Joe Morton

TNT has greenlit the supernatural drama Proof, starring Jennifer Beals (The L Word, Flashdance), Matthew Modine (And the Band Played On, Weeds) and Joe Morton (Scandal, Terminator 2: Judgment Day). Also starring in the series are Callum Blue (Dead Like Me, Royal Pains), Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class, Justified), Annie Thurman (The Hunger Games), Sean Gleeson (Doctors, Cold Mountain) and newcomer Caroline Rose Kaplan.

Proof is being executive-produced by Emmy(R) winner Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer); Rob Bragin (Greek, Murphy Brown), who wrote the pilot; Tom Jacobson; Jill Littman; and Emmy winner Alex Graves (The West Wing, Game of Thrones), who directed the pilot. TNT has ordered 10 episodes of Proof, with plans to launch the series in 2015.

In Proof, Beals plays Dr. Carolyn Tyler, a brilliant surgeon with a caustic edge. Carolyn has suffered the recent, devastating loss of her teenage son, the breakup of her marriage to Dr. Len Barliss (Gleeson) and a growing estrangement from their daughter (Thurman). But Carolyn’s own trauma hasn’t deterred her from her charitable outreaches, which include helping disaster victims in far-flung trouble spots throughout the world.

Despite her skeptical, hard-science attitude, Carolyn is persuaded by a cancer-stricken tech millionaire (Modine) to investigate cases of reincarnation, out-of-body experiences, hauntings and other supernatural phenomena. Her goal is to find verifiable proof to life’s greatest questions: Is death truly the end, or is there something else beyond?

Helping – or sometimes hindering – Carolyn in her quest are her boss, Dr. Charles Russell (Morton), the head of the hospital, and Peter Van Owen (Blue), a best-selling author who claims to be psychic. Gathegi plays Zed, a hospital intern from the Sudan who assists Carolyn, and Kaplan plays Janel Ramsey, Turing’s assistant.

“Proof is a fascinating series that takes on one of our most compelling questions: What happens when we die?” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “Jennifer Beals does a terrific job bringing her complex character to life, and she’s surrounded by an outstanding ensemble cast. We’re especially thrilled to be collaborating once again with Kyra Sedgwick, whose work on The Closer helped pave the way for TNT’s ever-growing slate of hit original series.”

This show is much needed for so many people. It opens us up to understanding what it means to understand what really happens to us after we die mad that death isn’t just the last stop in our lives but the beginning. This show not only questions our many predictions of what life death really is but helps the audience to question and understand who they are at a deeper level. It opens the audience to understand The God theory and helps us to understand his love and it shows us who we are as human beings. It gives us… Read more »

I would love to see this show. I have a best friend named Beth Deering who is an amazing psychic/medium. She has seen the other side in her visions. She held my brothers hand when he passed and seen my 2 grandmothers, one grandfather, and finally my dad sitting at a kitchen table waiting on my brother to join them for dinner. I showed her the pictures of my grandparents the next day and she said that is exactly who she saw. She is making a name for herself in the central Ohio area. She has seen Jesus and the… Read more »

I really like Proof. Jennifer Beals is great in her role and the cast is settling in with each other well. The plot is good—but where do you go from here? You leave us hanging like ABC did on FOREVER—a marvelously written and acted supernatural crime drama. FOREVER would fit right in with the TNT family of series, as it is obvious that TNT values great acting, excellent writing, and interesting programs that can be viewed by all ages. I do so wish that TNT would consider and do a pickup on FOREVER. It would work so very well with… Read more »
