A couple weeks ago, FOX shifted their low-rated Rake series to Friday nights. Now, the show is on the move again.
Rake follows a lawyer (Greg Kinnear) who tries to do good but just can’t seem to get beyond his numerous addictions that cause him so much trouble. The cast also includes John Ortiz, Necar Zadegan, Bojana Novakovic, David Harbour, Tara Summers, Miranda Otto, and Ian Colletti.
The series is being replaced by Kitchen Nightmares as of this Friday night. A rerun of the Gordon Ramsay series will lead into the one-hour series finale of Raising Hope at 9pm. Season six of Nightmares kicks off on April 11th.
Back-to-back episodes of Rake will air on Saturday, April 5th, starting at 8pm. That will leave one episode unaired — the sixth installment produced, titled “Mammophile.” No word on when or if that will see the light of day.
One thing is clear however. Despite the fact that FOX hasn’t cancelled it yet, there’s no way that Rake will be returning for a second season.
What do you think? Have you been watching the Rake TV series? Why do you think it hasn’t caught on?
I love this show. Can’t believe it’s getting cancelled. I don’t enjoy much regular television these days but Rake is such a fun and clever show. Greg Kinnear is awesome in it. This show is such a breath of fresh air compared to the same old stupid “reality” shows that are all staged anyway. Finally something clever comes out that I enjoy and it get’s cancelled. Such a shame!
What??? “Rakes” going off the air? You’ve got a hit for gosh sake! Give it some PR and a good time slot and it’ll take off. The writing is great and who doesn’t like Greg Kinnear…he plays the part beautifully. I feel like you’ve been playing “Hide and Seek” with the show all season. Most people I talk to about it, haven’t even heard of it. Why go to the bother of producing a show with good story lines and great actors, and then bump it around between time slots? I really don’t want to watch Chef Ramsey “saving” another… Read more »
I think it is a damn shame that you cancel a great show like Rake and keep shows like Hell’s Kitchen on. You haven’t even given Rake a chance. No promotions and switching days without even advertising it. My husband just happened to be channel searching and found it on Friday night. I am so sick of reality shows. Put Rake back on please. I watch very few shows anymore because there isn’t anything worth watching on TV.
We don’t need another cooking show. Put Rake back on ! Finally a show worth waiting to watch!
That sucks man I love rake
Greg Kinnear is such a quality actor and great in lead role. Show has a great story line and excellent writing. Will really be disappointed if not renewed for next season.
This show is hilarious!! Greg Kinnear at his best!!!
Rake is wonderful…witty and intelligent. If the network really wants a winner that could be running for years and years…. like say The Good Wife….. they should nurture this show. Its got qualities far beyond most TV shows ever produced. Can you tell? We love it.
I know exactly why it was canceled: because I liked it too much!
This is a shame. I really found this a terrific show! There’s got to be a way to save it. I want to know what’s going to happen next. CRAP!! forgive my language….
I really liked the show. I hope they give it a chance.
I guess I’ll have to watch the original Australian version, although Greg Kinnear played the role better I think.
I absolutely love Rake, it’s a very clever, well done show. I was surprised it was on Fox to begin with so I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised that it is being cancelled by them. Hopefully someone else will pick it up. Same with Almost Human. More quality television cancelled by Fox to make way for b.s.reality shows.
Love this show, very funny & clever show, Greg Kinnear played the part so well, as well as all the other cast members, i hope the show will continue with a 2nd season!
Finally we get a cleverly written, above average acting, and a lead character that is excellent and it does not get ratings?!! I think this show deserves a really great time slot, maybe Sunday or Monday evenings at a decent time slot, I hope Fox gives it a second chance and some serious promotion……..
Rake is a phenominal show! It just needs to be advertised better and given a second chance. It has all of the elements to be a huge success if more people would give it the time of day.
