canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Ringer: Cancelled; No Season Two for CW Series

by Trevor Kimball, May 12, 2012

Ringer cancelled season twoHeralded as Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to television, Ringer couldn’t hold onto its audience. The show’s been cancelled after one season and 22 episodes.

As Ringer begins, we meet Bridget (Gellar), a former stripper and recovering alcoholic who’s witnessed a murder and goes to stay with her estranged twin sister Siobhan (also Gellar). Her sister disappears so Bridget takes Siobhan’s place and soon realizes that her sister’s life was more complicated than her own. The TV series also features the talents of Nestor Carbonell, Ioan Gruffudd, Mike Colter, Tara Summers, Kristoffer Polaha, Zoey Deutch, Justin Bruening, Billy Miller, Jason Dohring, Nicole Anderson, and Gage Golightly.

Considering the amount of promotion that The CW put behind it, Ringer’s premiere had to viewed as a bit of a disappointment. It registered a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.84 million total viewers.

Should Ringer have been cancelled?

In week two, the demo dropped a whopping 25% to a 0.9 rating with 1.94 million. Week thee remained stable but week four plunged 33%.

Over the course of the season, the ratings fluctuated but also dwindled downward. They fell as low as a 0.4 rating (several times) with as few as 1.05 million viewers.

With very few hours of primetime real estate to fill, it just didn’t make sense for The CW to renew Ringer for a second season. They’ve cancelled the show and the last episode aired on April 17th. Since it wasn’t expected to be a series finale, several storylines were left up in the air.

What do you think? Are you disappointed that Ringer has been cancelled and won’t be returning for season two? Why do you think the ratings declined? Was it too hard to follow or just not interesting enough?

this show should of never been cancelled, it was so good. ok, the first 10 episodes were not as exciting but after that, it got really exciting and suspensful and then they had to cancel it as soon as bridget found out that siobhan was still alive

The show was interesting at first but I agree after the first few episodes it dragged and that didn’t really seem to be much happening. I lost interest after the fourth and fifth episode. I couldn’t figure out after a while who was alive and who was dead and there was so much intrigue that it really wasn’t that interesting. I like Sarah Michelle Gellar so hopefully she’ll find a better show

I am infuriated and sad at the same time. Ringer is mind blowing with excitement at every corner. I am very upset. Was so excited for season two. What about stupid shows like two and a half men?!

I’m so disappointed the networks cancelling all my favorite
shows!! I’m going to start reading books instead of watching another show just to have it cancelled.

Thought it was brilliant, nice twist to the story and not at all predictable. Much better than a lot of crap out there…..I’m sick of all those unrealistic super rich LA teenage barbie-doll series!! So disappointing CW!!

Loved the show, really good plot lines and twists.Sarah was fantastic playing two characters, loved Andrew too. Wish they could wrap it up at least or do a short last season in the fall. Move it to a 10pm slot like revenge, that got renewed.

I loved to watch Ringer every Tuesday. I am very disappointed with CW because they cancelled Ringer. I hate when I start to watch something that I can not see the end. The CW cancelled wonderful show and keep the ones that I hate. I am barely watching CW right now. The only CW show that I’m watching is Nikita because everything else is just garbage.

This show started off really well and after peaking around its 5th episode it became boring. It picked up again later on but it was too little too late. Sarah Michelle Gellar will always be Buffy to me and unfortunately it is difficult to transition from an iconic character into a new role. Sarah did an excellent job of portraying Bridget, but when playing Siobhan, she failed to be believable and as such the show suffered.

I am so very dissappointed in the CW for canceling Ringer. It was as good if not better than the Vampire Diaries. Why didn’t you cancel the Secret Circle instead. I will be hard pressed to follow your network on future tv endeavors.

A disgruntled fan

Look to the right, The Secret Circle WAS cancelled.

I just couldn’t stay hooked on this show. After the first four episodes, it was interesting, but the story was losing its thrill to me. I was also getting annoyed by seeing two different characters being portrayed by the same person, that’s just my two cents.

Nooooo!!! LOVE this show!!!!! It wasn’t hard to follow if you watched every week. It was great! Kept us guessing. I wish they’d at least wrap up the storylines and not leave us hanging.
