There’s good news and bad news for fans of ABC‘s Rookie Blue. Season five has been “super-sized.”
The Canadian cop drama usually has 13 episodes each season but the count for season five has been increased to 22 installments. Unfortunately, ABC and Global TV in Canada only plan on running 11 episodes this summer. The remaining 11 will be aired “at a later date.”
Though nothing’s been said about ending the show with season five, studios sometimes produce larger-than-usual seasons to save on production costs, break them into two parts, and then end the show.
On the other hand, Rookie Blue will have just 74 episodes by the end of season five. Studios typically want at least 88 episodes for a syndication package.
Production on season five began in January and will start airing July 17th. Two new characters will be introduced — Oliver Becker as Inspector John Jarvis and Matt Murray as Rookie Duncan Moore.
Returning castmembers include Missy Peregrym, Gregory Smith, Ben Bass, Travis Milne, Enuka Okuma, Charlotte Sullivan, Peter Mooney, Priscilla Faia, Matt Gordon, Rachel Ancheril, Melanie Nicholls-King, Adam MacDonald and Aliyah O’Brien.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to season five? What do you think about having to wait for the second half of the season?
