canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

The Assets: ABC Cancels Spy Drama — Again

by Trevor Kimball, July 1, 2014

The Assets TV show on ABC canceledMaybe fans of The Assets will get to see all eight episodes of the ABC series some day. The network cancelled and pulled the limited TV show after just two low-rated episodes back in January. Then, last month, the network decided to burn off the remaining episodes on Saturday nights.

Two new installments have aired on but the ratings have been dismal, even by Saturday night standards. Now, the network has pulled The Assets off the schedule once again. They’re replacing the remaining episodes with reruns of Mistresses.

Hopefully, ABC will just release the remaining episodes online so the show’s small audience can finally see the rest of them.

Hee are the press notes:

I believe low ratings was a lie. This was one of the most exciting stories
that I’ve seen in ages. I’m not a binge watcher, but I was one in this case.
It was a true story. Two women were basically responsible for finding
the mole within the CIA………..my feeling is the CIA or FBI wanted this
show shut down. Perhaps too much information on how they catch
moles…who knows…but I know it could not be low rating.

Well, finally got to see the conclusion of this miniseries yesterday, and am so glad all the episodes were finally aired. This was a superlative production for network television, and unfortunately it had no chance of garnering the accolades it deserved. The casting and performances were extraordinary, and the faithful adherence to factual events was spot-on. Had this program been given its proper promotion by ABC, with a reliable and consistent timeslot, it would surely have at least earned Emmy nominations, if not Emmy awards for a variety of categories. It was only 8 episodes, not an indeterminate-length series. It… Read more »

Alex, I agree with you 100%. This was the best mini-series we have seen in a long time. I couldn’t wait to see the final two episodes which aired yesterday on ABC. Fortunately, all eight episodes are available on the ABC iPad app and probably ABC.com. I would highly recommend that anyone looking for binge watching of a spy series to go hear NOW before the CIA forces them to remove them. Really, don’t you think the CIA was involved in getting the show cancelled after all the first two episodes in the first place. With all they’re dealing with… Read more »

The mistresses? There was a time that a mistress was looked upon as an Undesirable person. Now, ABC makes shows as if they’re worth anyone’s time. Immoral. History is not worth their time. Shameful. Boycott ABC.

I have been looking for additional episodes of The Assets dice it first aired. I usually watch all tv programs later on On Demand. ABC is foolish to think we drop an ongoing series to look for new programs that the network doesn’t bother to promote, but this series is so terrific and very interesting that I looked for it. No wonder people are turning to Cable networks for better availability of programs(multiple viewings at different time slots and repeated throughout the week. We get one chance not to miss network programs each week, or the network cancels the show?!… Read more »

It is so irritating to get hooked on a show only to have it cancelled! I really do hope they put the remaining episodes online.

It is an important story and well-acted. Please post the rest online. Or sell the rights to PBS for a dollar and let them run it. Don’t leave us hanging.

I was really enjoying this show. It requires the viewer to think and is not as flashy as much of the stuff that is on TV. Why cancel it before the last episode? Let us see the rest of it! Who is going to to watch the “Mistresses”????

I agree with many of the comments here. It was really good
Show and it sucks that it didn’t capture enough of an audience to stick around. It seems to me that thankless reality tv (which isn’t even reality) have staying power but any show that requires you to think just a little bit or pay attention don’t last long. Sad really. I hope an earlier comment I read is true. I hope they finish airing the rest or at least make them available online.

I can’t believe it. You’ve pulled this series a second time?! It’s actually been quite good and much better than much of what we see (or choose not to see). Give it to Netflix or Amazon Prime.
