As you may recall, ABC started running The Assets on January 2nd but pulled the limited series after just two epipsdes had aired. Now, the network has announced that the show will be returning this summer — for a little while.
The network will start airing the remaining six episodes on Saturday, June 21st, at 9pm. Here’s the schedule:
Saturday, June 21st – “Trip to Vienna”
Saturday, June 28th – “What’s Done is Done”
Saturday, July 5th – “Check Mate”
Saturday, July 12th – “Small Useless Truth”
Saturday, July 19th – “The Straw Poll”
Saturday, July 26st – “Avenger”
The first two episodes are available for viewing online at Hulu.com.
The Assets revolves around the real life events of CIA counter-intelligence officers Sandy Grimes (Jodie Whittaker) and Jeanne Vertefeuille (Harriet Walter) and their search for the most notorious traitor in US History, Aldrich Ames (Paul Rhys). Others in the cast include Stuart Milligan, Julian Ovenden, Christina Cole, and Ralph Brown.

This was an excellent mini-series. It was very well written, directed and acted and should have been nominated for several Emmys.
However, the klutzy way ABC mismanaged the promotion and presentation of the episodes was ridiculous. For a screw-up of this magnitude, I suspect meddling by the seventh floor of the CIA. Were they worried that a retelling of the Ames case would somehow besmirch the CIA’s reputation? Was that why they also gave their review of the Circle of Treason draft the slow-roll for THREE years before clearing it?
This is one of the best stories/ series which was based on real history. How crazy is the network to premier it during the Olympics and not give it a chance! I saw no advertising either. The show was recommended by a friend. The story was breathtakingly suspenseful, excellent actors and acting, and well produced. Thankfully, you put on the last 6 episodes! Hopefully, you will produce more such programing — this was outstanding.

This was a great show. Very diasappointed it was cancelled. Now we get a lot of garbage reality shows. This show was an interesting fact based telling of the CIA in the 80’s. ABC doesn’t have many shows that give an intelligent viewing audience anything worthwhile to watch.

abc once again got it wrong ,great show great story line they leave all the **** on any thing that is good they cancel I’m so done with ABC

Why ABC keeps canceling this show I don’t know if it is the dumbing down of America well I can understand that unfortunately, there are people left in America who do have the brains to watch shows of this caliber.
So ABC please bring the show back there so many people who would love to see it and bring it to its conclusion an excellent series.
I was able to watch first 4 episodes and the next 2 are coming on next Sunday afternoon. I’ll be watching.
This is an excellent series. Why it was cancelled is puzzling. Probably has something to do with the dumbing down of America. The history of the CIA in this period is fascinating.

I dont understand why shows that are absolutely great get cancelled. What is it that the networks base their decisions on when canceling shows and replacing them with mindless stupidity.
ABC made a big mistake in cancelling The Assets – a terrific series. Hundred times better than most crap the network shows. Viewers with a brain want shows like Assets.
I don’t get it either. My husband and I watched this when it first came on then gone after two episodes. We love shows about historical happenings. We were excited to see the rest of the series seemingly was going to be on this summer so we could finish watching…then boom, off again. I hate network tv….no wonder I so rarely watch it anymore, very unreliable and mess with the programming all the time, even with popular shows till they lose their audiences because you give up on planning to watch them!
