Court will soon be adjourned for ABC’s new legal drama. The Whole Truth has been cancelled.
Airing on Wednesday nights, The Whole Truth stars TV veterans Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney. He plays a powerful defense attorney who was raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Tierney is on the opposite side as a Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney whose father was a sheriff. Viewers are shown how each side builds their case, using their own version of “the truth.” The rest of the cast includes Eamonn Walker, Sean Wing, Anthony Ruivivar, and Christine Adams.
For whatever reason, most viewers haven’t been willing to even give the series a try. The legal drama got off to a very poor start right out of the gate. Whole Truth debuted on September 22th to a poor 1. 5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The news got even worse in week two and the rating dropped by 20%. The last two episodes seem to have evened off, registering a 1.3 rating and about 4.4 million total viewers.
The Whole Truth’s been ABC’s lowest rated show, attracting an even lower rating than My Generation; another freshman drama that was pulled after just two episodes. Likely because of the caliber of the show’s cast and because it’s being co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer’s company, ABC has been more patient with it. That doesn’t mean however that they’re going to order any more episodes. ABC has now cancelled The Whole Truth.
Via Twitter, co-executive producer KristieAnne Reed confirmed that the cast and crew will complete the initial 13 episode order but that will be the end. At this point, it’s unclear how many of those will actually air.
Whole Truth remains on the schedule this week but will be preempted next week for the In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville interview special. On November 10th, ABC airs the Country Music Awards. Whole Truth is tentatively scheduled to return after that but those plans could certainly change.
Though Whole Truth has been cancelled, there is some positive news for fans of the show. With the news of the cancellation coming this far in advance, producers have time to give the series some closure. The cast and crew are still shooting and are scheduled to continue until mid-December.
What do you think? Should The Whole Truth have been cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I liked that you found out what really happens at the end! Most shows just leave you hanging and then you are always wondering what really happened. Perhaps if they did a bit more advertising, then more people would watch it. It really was a great show. Although I don’t believe airing it on a different night or time would make a difference, I still hope someone else picks it up.
I can’t believe this is being cancelled! It hasn’t ran long enough to make that decision! Maybe CBS will pick it up!
i think that it was a good show think it being canceled was an error too bad abc. I enjoyed the show, seeing how the evidence is interpreted differently from each side. This show wasnt given a chance.
Loved this show! I always looked forward to watching it!
I am sorry to see it was canceled as well. I also googled it to see what happened to it. I watched every episode that aired and found it really a well written show with a good plot line. They really should have given the show a chance.
This was one of my favorite new shows and i am very disappointed that it is being cancelled. Hopefully someone else will pick it up and keep it going.
I think the series had lots of potential, and I enjoyed the show, however, I don’t think it had a chance with another new series, The Defenders premiering at the same time slot on another channel. The other series had lots of promotion, whereas this series did not receive any promotion. Too bad, it could have been a good series.
This was a great show! I had a feeling it was being cancelled, that’s why I googled it. I think word was just starting to spread that it was a pretty good show, as friends of mine who hadn’t yet watched said they’d heard good reviews on it. Maybe they will reconsider?
No, The Whole Truth should not be canceled. The network didn’t give it a long enough chance to see if ratings would improve.
I saw this series and couldn’t wait for the next one. I am very disappointed this has been cancelled. It is one of the best written and acted shows I have seen in so many years – in this genre. What in the world !!! ??? Hope someone else keeps it going because when the word gets out how great it is – advertisers will pay to sponsor this one.
it was the best new show on so of course it gets cancelled i think another network should pick it up or put it in another time slot. it didnt get any advertising everyone i told about it hadnt even heard of it please bring it back!
This is sad news, as it was a good show. I liked how the show was put together and we were just learning a bit more about the characters and their relationship to each other.
Sometimes, I think it’s simply a matter of where in the weeks line-up the show should be placed. To cancel the show is a loss.
Rome wasn’t built in a day, give the show a chance. Perhaps a different night of the week for it to be aired would be beneficial vs total cancellation.
The Whole Truth was one of the better written shows to have been aired. Cancellation was premature. Publicity was nil. We both really miss it.
C’mon. Let’s try some more!
I don’t think the series “The Whole Truth” should have been cancelled. I generally solve who committed the crimes mid way through other television shows, but this show, I found was interesting, and had such a different twist. It kept you guessing right up to the end. It was interesting how they would reveal what actually occurred with the clients, guilty or innocent and how things actually happened. I found it refreshing different. I watched it regularly and was disappointed to learn it had been cancelled.
How disappointing. This is one of my family’s favorite shows. Please…someone…somewhere…pick this up. ABC What are you thinking????
