Court will soon be adjourned for ABC’s new legal drama. The Whole Truth has been cancelled.
Airing on Wednesday nights, The Whole Truth stars TV veterans Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney. He plays a powerful defense attorney who was raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Tierney is on the opposite side as a Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney whose father was a sheriff. Viewers are shown how each side builds their case, using their own version of “the truth.” The rest of the cast includes Eamonn Walker, Sean Wing, Anthony Ruivivar, and Christine Adams.
For whatever reason, most viewers haven’t been willing to even give the series a try. The legal drama got off to a very poor start right out of the gate. Whole Truth debuted on September 22th to a poor 1. 5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The news got even worse in week two and the rating dropped by 20%. The last two episodes seem to have evened off, registering a 1.3 rating and about 4.4 million total viewers.
The Whole Truth’s been ABC’s lowest rated show, attracting an even lower rating than My Generation; another freshman drama that was pulled after just two episodes. Likely because of the caliber of the show’s cast and because it’s being co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer’s company, ABC has been more patient with it. That doesn’t mean however that they’re going to order any more episodes. ABC has now cancelled The Whole Truth.
Via Twitter, co-executive producer KristieAnne Reed confirmed that the cast and crew will complete the initial 13 episode order but that will be the end. At this point, it’s unclear how many of those will actually air.
Whole Truth remains on the schedule this week but will be preempted next week for the In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville interview special. On November 10th, ABC airs the Country Music Awards. Whole Truth is tentatively scheduled to return after that but those plans could certainly change.
Though Whole Truth has been cancelled, there is some positive news for fans of the show. With the news of the cancellation coming this far in advance, producers have time to give the series some closure. The cast and crew are still shooting and are scheduled to continue until mid-December.
What do you think? Should The Whole Truth have been cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

Excellent program. Such a shame to lose a good program. Don’t understand why all the good ones are cancelled and programs like Outsourced, Survivor and Undercovers are still on.
Good show, bad time slot. Always had to choose. Thank goodness for TIVO. I hate the quick guns at the networks. Nothing gets a chance. We continue to see awful shows like the recently announced Skating with the Stars, but well plotted shows like this, for grown ups get tanked. Just too bad.
This was a good show, pull off some of the reality shows.
Shucks!!!!! I really liked this show. Yanking it so soon doesn’t give it a chance to be found. I hope it does come back. I really liked the closing piece where you find out what really happened. Also love the way they handled the same scene from the perspective of both sides. That is really different for TV series.
BRING IT BACK
What?.. i love this show… give it another chance!
this was a great show, the chemistry between the two was great so were the stories. Whoever cancelled this show is a horse’s butt.
Well, another good one bites the dust. What is wrong with the viewing audience…why watch the other drivel that is on the schedule when this is fresh AND entertaining. I hope it gets another chance.
I love this show…I wish they would keep it.
Sorry to hear that such an interesting and truthful show has been cancelled.
My husband and I have worked with many attorneys in our profession and it was enlightening to see the WHOLE TRUTH of a jury trial. Pleas bring the show back
It’s ridiculous how quickly they pull shows off the air now! They need to give them a chance to catch on! I really enjoyed The Whole Truth. How can we have shows as awful as the Jersey Shore stay on the air, but shows with decent writing and story ideas are pulled!
What a bunch of crap! This is why I never want to give new shows a chance- as soon as I do, they get canceled!!!! How is anyone supposed to decide if they like a show or the characters when they get yanked off the air so quickly??!!
I’m really disappointed with this cancellation. Fortunately, I have a DVR so could watch this and The Defenders, but if I had to choose, I really like the chemistry, the showing of the long term friendship between the Morrow and Tierney characters, and the “revelation” at the end, so would choose this. Defenders is more fluff. I agree that if they change the time spot, it will do better, and may get the ratings they want. Hope it will grow over the next few weeks so they reconsider, or someone else picks it up. Maybe TNT, this fits well with… Read more »
I am so sad to hear this show has been cancelled. I don’t think ABC did a very good job promoting it in the first place. If they had showed as many promos as last year’s “The Good Wife”, I think it would have been popular from the get-go. You can’t expect to have an audience when viewers don’t know it exists.
Thank god I am smart enough to know how to get the canadian broadcasts
I can’t believe it. This is a great show-loved see the “whole truth”
at the end. Who makes these decisions? When there are many new shows it takes a little time to check them out and become familiar with the characters.
