TV Guide reports ABC is not going forward with the Toast TV show comedy from Shondaland. In addition to Jerrika Hinton, pictured above as Stephanie on Grey’s Anatomy, the cast of Toast includes: Tessa Ferrer, Jono Kenyon, and Punam Patel.
Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers were to executive produce, with Greg Grunberg and Scott Foley who developed the idea and were set as writers.
Toast features an engaged couple Max and Paige. During their wedding rehearsal dinner, their family and friends propose toasts recounting the couple’s history. Flashbacks reveal that the toastmasters are not necessarily reliable narrators. Hilarity ensues.
ABC did renew the freshman Shondaland show, The Catch, for a second season. It also ordered the new Shondaland series Still Star-Crossed, a sequel to Romeo and Juliet.
What do you think? Do you like the sound of the Toast TV show? Do you think ABC should have picked it up?
Good sounded stupid.
Maybe a sound idea to pass on another Shondaland project. IMHO, “The Catch” is falling apart … after the 2nd episode my interest began to wane, and now I cannot bring myself to DVR the thing. Sometimes it is wise to take a break after too much hard work for too long.
I’m really disappointed Toast didn’t get picked up. I was really looking forward to it.
