Move over Outlaw, NBC has cancelled another new series. The spy dramedy Undercovers is ending its run after 13 episodes.
Undercovers revolves around a married pair of former spies who are pulled back into service after their close friend goes missing. The TV show features the talents of Boris Kodjoe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mekia Cox, Carter MacIntyre, Gerald McRaney, and Ben Schwartz.
The series stumbled right out of the gate and attracted a disappointing 2.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 8.7 million viewers. In week two, the demo fell by 24% to a 1.6 rating and the numbers essentially kept on falling. Last night’s episode hit a new demo low with a 1.3 rating and 5.913 million total viewers.
Though NBC ordered four additional scripts in mid-October, the studio suspected that that show’s been doomed for quite awhile. Today, the network made it official — Undercovers has been cancelled.
It remains to be seen if fans of the series will get to see all 13 installments. Seven episodes have aired so far and three more are scheduled for November 10th, November 17th, and December 1st. NBC has a Shrek holiday special scheduled for Thanksgiving eve (November 24th) and The Sing-Off will take over the timeslot on December 8th.
Three episodes of Undercovers will be left on the shelf at that point and the network will decide at a later date if or when they’ll air.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Undercovers is coming to an end? Why do you think it didn’t catch on? How would you have fixed it?

This was a great show. I don’t understand why it was cancelled and definitely hope another. Network picks it up and allows it to grow the way it should. I think the numbers could have been low because the show didn’t get a lot f publicity. Where were the previews and billboards and etc? There were only a few and most that can be counted on one hand. When you really want people to watch you make sure they know about the show. A lot of people I know hadn’t even heard of it. Anyway, it’s a great show and… Read more »
I love this show too! Great cast, great (pretend) world locations. I don’t know why it failed. I hope it’s not because of the cast’s race. I’m not of color and I think the girl is fascinating and beautiful; great to watch!
Atlease let us see the last three episodes. The show seemed to pick up stride and I really started to enjoy it.
I’m so sad to hear the news about “Undercovers” I love the cast, and it’s so nice to see brown people in the lead. Yes, the writing leaves a bit to be desired, but the show is entertaining, well cast and acted, and visually stunning. The premise has promise, please let the show fulfill its potential. I’ll keep watching!
OMG! NOOOOO, don’t cancel it. This is an amazing show. I love it so much. Boris and Gugu make a great pair and all the actors have wonderful chemistry together. It’s a marvelous mix. We have all these Law and Orders, NCIS’s, CSI’s that are no doubt all good shows BUT this amazing new show is so refreshing to watch. I really hate that it has been cancelled. I hope that another network will pick this show up, I really do. There goes the highlight of my Wednesday evening. Geez!!!!
Thought it was a great program–sorry to see it end. I’ve quit watching new shows for the most part because they don’t last. I tried this one–learned the same lesson again–wait until the second season and see if it lasts.
I loved this show. Lead actress is amazing and all the actors are doing fine job. Maybe it needed some more time to be popular.
Will miss it..
My wife and I watched every episode aired. EVERY episode aired. We watched them at least once; sometimes twice or more. We loved the show. NBC didn’t give the show a chance. I would love to see it on the USA network.
My husband and I looked forward to this show every week because it was one that we BOTH liked!!!It was different than the rest of the cookie cutter murder/crime solved shows. The actors were perfect for the show. Please bring it back on another network.
Just goes to show you where NBC stands. It’s a terrible network, the reason for the low ratings is that no one watches NBC. I almost wish Undercovers was on a different network, I garuntee it would have lasted much longer. I’m sorry to see it go, it was a good show, with great action and a nice comedic side to it. They should air the last few episodes, it’s being replaced by the “Sing-Off” “Awesome” looking forward to not watching that.
It is a fantastic show! It reminds me of the shows that my parents used to watch called ‘Hart to Hart’ and ‘Remington Steele’. With Undercovers, it’s good to see a show that is bold and cutting-edge, on NBC no less. I would have hoped NBC would have stuck it out with the show. It would have caught on, but it needs time, which NBC doesn’t have. It’s not like any show on TV. That’s what makes it unique. The show has a great premise and a really strong cast. The show also remined me of the movie ‘Mr. and… Read more »
I really enjoy this show and hope the network does not cancel it
Sorry to hear the show was cancelled. Each episode was hit or miss, but it was well-cast, and some of the story lines were good. That said, the action scenes were very creative, the locations were rarely believeable – especially the episode where they were supposed to be in North Korea (!); that was pretty bad. But it was definitely the kind of show I hoped would grow into it time slot. It would have benefited a lot from better writing, Perhaps with scripts similar to Chuck, Fringe or Eureka! It’s remarkable Undercovers had a great premise, but the scripts… Read more »
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this show every week! We loved being swept away to different countries. The relationship between the two lead characters are kind and sensitive and refreshing for a tv couple. The dialogue was campy, but the production was sharp. Great sets, great locations, great action, great FUN! We will follow this show to any network it goes to. Plus I need to say, how many television shows are there featuring a gorgeous black couple who have high level security clearance jobs, who work with integrity, work ethic, and maintain a faithful and loving relationship? This… Read more »
i loved this show, it was a great balance with the suspense/drama and comedy. Boris provided some serious eye candy to say the least. i really hope that another network picks this one up ASAP! I want to know the ‘real’ reason Steven left the agency. I want to know the ‘real’ reason why the Blooms were recruited to come back. And what’s up with Sam’s sister? She has some secrets too….hhhmmm… too many unanswered questions. i will be following this one to see WHEN this show comes back on air. Kudos to all involved with this project.
