canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Unforgettable: Cancelled Yet Again; No Season Five on A&E

by Trevor Kimball, February 16, 2016

Unforgettable TV show on A&E: canceled, no season 5It looks like the clock has run out on the Unforgettable TV show for real this time. A&E has cancelled the cop drama and won’t be ordering season five.

Unforgettable follows Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery), a police detective who has hyperthymesia — a rare medical condition that gives her the ability to visually remember everything. She works with Al Burns (Dylan Walsh) and other members of the Major Crimes team of the NYPD to track down the city’s most nefarious criminals. The rest of season four’s cast includes Alani Anthony, Kathy Najimy, and E.J. Bonilla.

The series began on CBS and was cancelled after one season but the network later reversed their decision. They renewed Unforgettable for a second season and later, for a third.

The network cancelled the show again in October 2014 but A&E revived the series five months later and ordered a fourth season of 13 episodes. They started airing in November and concluded in January, averaging a 0.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 740,000 viewers. Compared to season three’s ratings, these were down about 87%.

The ratings for Unforgettable were expected to be lower for its run on cable but it’s unlikely that A&E expected them to be that low. The cable channel ended up airing the final four episodes in one night, seemingly an attempt to just get rid of them.

Sony TV, which produces the series, isn’t expected to make any efforts to revive the series this time around. Cast contracts have reportedly already expired and some, Montgomery included, are considering new series pilots.

What do you think? Did you like the Unforgettable TV show? Did you watch on A&E? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fifth season?

Some people didn’t even know the show existed until this year. I binged watched this show faithfully. To leave it on a cliffhanger is horrible. Al shouldn’t die, he should live and I was hoping the entire time they would get together and be happy. This is not a well thought out process from any production standpoint. Most ppl have trouble with getting everyday tv and have to opt for other options. The only way I found the show was through Netflix. This is horrible, I would not have even gotten into the show had I known it was going… Read more »

This is not acceptable. Leaving a great show on a cliffhanger! And the decision to kill of Al and not continue the series is a major disappointment. Shame on you A&E!!

I’m with everyone else, how could you cancel a show with a cliffhanger? You only end an episode like that if you’re coming back for another season. You could have had another episode or two. That was just torture. The show was never given enough publicity when it moved to A & E. Trying to find out when and where it was on probably cost you a lot of viewers. Really good show. Wish it had been treated properly.

I simply cant believe how you can end a whole series in a cliffhanger. My granddaughter and I watched it right from the start and really loved it. But to end like that…. makes me so mad

How is it possible to finish a series with a cliffhanger .
Surely a couple of episodes as stated before would finish the series properly.
I am really disappointed by the decision by A&E.

I have seen all episodes of “UNFORGETABLE’ and loved everyone of them.
If a season is to be cancelled the viewers should at least finish the story line, not leave a cliffhanger
. Shame on you.

Hi, I have only just realised that series 5 has been cancelled – I watch on Now TV (Sky) and the final episode of series 4 was aired a couple of weeks ago. My husband and I have really enjoyed ‘Unforgettable’ and can’t believe that it would be cancelled following the cliffhanger of Al’s death. If a full series is not viable, I agree with previous comments, that one or two episodes should be made to finish off the story, maybe even a feature length finale. I have watched every episode, some more than once and I really want to… Read more »
