Per Deadline, Canadian web series, Whatever, Linda, is being developed as a half-hour TV show by The Mark Gordon Company. Orphan Black‘s Graeme Manson is executive producing. Watch a trailer and the first web episode of the web series, below.
In the web series, co-creator Hannah Cheesman stars as Linda Thoroughbred. Deadline says Cheesman will write and executive produce the TV version with co-creator Julian De Zotti, but won’t act in it. The cast of the web series also includes: Terra Hazelton, Cara Ricketts, Martha MacIssac, Mike Shara, Brendan Gall, Julian Richings, Graydon Sheppard, and Sheila McCarthy.
It’s 1978 and Linda Thoroughbred is broke. And divorced. And pushing 30. But when life hands her another lemon, she makes… millions. Watch one woman take on Wall Street, and level the playing field in this Ponzi scheme dramedy inspired by the real-life events of the Bernie Madoff scandal.
Here is more, from Deadline:
Inspired by America’s recent financial crisis, Whatever, Linda is a wickedly dark comedy set in 1978 about four disenfranchised secretaries on Wall Street who become the engineers behind the world’s most notorious Ponzi scheme.
“Whatever, Linda vibrantly and wittily explores themes and conflicts that are still very relevant today: the feminist movement, an anti-establishment renaissance, and the lasting implications of Wall Street’s power over our economy,” Gordon said. “Graeme is a rare talent who seamlessly weaves drama, comedy, and mystery to create exceptional television, and we all know what he can achieve with an enticing storyline and strong female leads.”
