Guiding Light: Petition to Continue the Venerable Soap Opera

Guiding LightAfter more than 15,700 episodes, CBS has cancelled Guiding Light.

Thankfully, the company that actually owns the show, Proctor & Gamble, wants to keep it going — perhaps online or via a cable channel. Jeannie Tharrington, Director of Communications of P&G’s TeleNext, said, “We’re looking at all our options. This show started as a 15-minute radio show, and then it was a half-hour television show, so it has adapted over the years.”

If you’d like to see the show continue, let them know that you support their efforts and encourage them to keep searching to find a way to “keep the light on.” Here are some suggestions.

If you like the show, make sure that you tune in to watch it on CBS. Encourage your friends to do the same. The show’s decline in viewers is the reason why the show was cancelled. The higher the viewership, the more likely it is that P&G will be able to find a new home for the soap.

Consider buying P&G products. They make hundreds like Bounty, Bounce, Clairol, Crest, Dawn, Gillette, Head & Shoulders, Ivory, Mr. Clean, Old Spice, Pampers, and Pringles. You can visit their site to see the full list. You probably buy some already.

Sign the petition below and let P&G know that you’ve signed it. Spread the word.

Write to P&G and let them know how you feel about the show. Tell that you’re buying their products and which ones you like. Are you a stockholder? Let them know. Be respectful and polite. The company obviously want to be able to keep Light going if they can profit from it. It can be a win-win situation for everyone.

    Please bring back Guiding Light and As the World Turns to Hulu or another online outlet. These two soaps are missed and are still important in today's society. If All My Children and One Life to Live can get a new start, surely the two soaps that were at the forefront can be brought back to life. There is an audience out there for these two veteran soaps!     Please bring back Guiding Light I love this Soap and all the actors , theres no any more soap like GL you can do it online and I would gladly pay a fee or a monthly subscription to watch it, like me theres a whole lot of people that would paid to watch our favorite soap and stories again.

    I miss Guilding Light and As the World Turns so much. I have been watching them both for 50+ years and the characters were like family. Please find away to bring them both back, or at least one, even if it's only online. They were the best soaps and characters ever! Miss them all!

    Guiding Light was one of the best shows on television. The strategic insertion of music was well-placed. It was intelligently written, and all the characters were brilliantly portrayed. It should have never been cancelled. The Light will always be with me. It needs to be brought back. I miss everyone in Springfield!

    Please consider a tv mini series...at least of the last 6 months...many loyal P&G and CHECK and their soap opera family were not aware of the cancelling. I missed the ending weeks and still don't k know how tgl ended. Really, some top.folks dropped the ball in getting the message out to generations of very loyal fans of the shows, actors, writers, and the sponsors. If anything comes.to.mind to.get P&G and.CBS to get together, it would be a boycott of.their shows and products...not a.bad idea!!!!....especially in today's world.of Facebook.and Twitter. Uhmmmmm

    I was very young when I starte watching this show with my great grandmother. I do not even watch television like I use to because Guiding Light and As The World Turns is no longer available to watch anymore. I am really going to miss these two shows. I can't think of anything to keep me intereted on tv. I am 33 years old what will I be able to talk about that I have been watching for years. Well there's no years to come for me I am missing it so much.

    Like most viewers, I started watching GL with my grandmother, and then my mother started watching it at home so we just kept on watching.. I was even getting my daughter to watch it with me everyday after school on the DVR box. It will be sad to miss our time watching the show together as I explain the back-stories and help get her interested in the show. With so many shows being cancelled these days, daytime TV is getting a little boring. Please bring back The LIGHT, watching GL was one tradition we will sadly miss.
