This summer, CBS introduced two new scripted series. Neither have performed very well in the ratings. BrainDead looks likely to be cancelled. Could there be a second season of American Gothic?
The first season of American Gothic revolves around a well-to-do Boston family. The Hawthornes are reeling in the wake of the chilling discovery that someone in their midst may be a serial killer. The cast includes Virginia Madsen, Juliet Rylance, Justin Chatwin, Stephanie Leonidas, Gabriel Bateman, Megan Ketch, and Elliot Knight.
The series debuted in late June to a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.43 million viewers. Those weren’t impressive numbers to be sure and over the course of the season, the numbers have fallen as low as a 0.4 rating with 2.37 million.
While the finale is expected to wrap up the first season’s mysteries, showrunner Corinne Brinkerhoff has said that she already has plans for season two and beyond. Future seasons (if they happen) will revolve around other family mysteries and feature different characters.
Given the low ratings, it doesn’t seem likely that the writers will get a chance to tell those stories. Still, these days, you never know.

Love this show, season two! Please!
This show is so awesome!! It grabs your attention from beginning to end. When it’s over we can’t believe it’s been an entire hour because it goes by so quickly!! So entertaining and we can’t wait for the next weeks episode!!! Please don’t cancel it!!

This is one if the best new mystery series on TV. Again, I strongly believe that if this show had debued in Fall or Winter it would have had a much larger following with more people in at home rather than the running around, active summer days. Please give one more season or please let another cable channel try it. On a network like FX theyy could rev up the scares and action like they donwith my other favorites Bates Motel & American Horror Story. American Gothic is a great show! Look at the crap that they are keeping on!
Would love a season two–loves these mini series type murder mysteries. And I really enjoyed the fact it was centered in Boston. I do wish it was the same characters, though, although that would not make sense I suppose. Who doesn’t love Virginia Madsen?? And the newcomers, the actress who plays Allison, is great. And the actor who plays Cam was fantastic in HBO’s Shameless. But Garrett–mysterious and hot!!!
A one and done season would be ok for me. The show is ok, but not one I anxiously wait for every week. If there’s a season two, I’d give a look, but hopefully there would be a new family, dragging more out of the current family would like be a no go
