This summer, CBS introduced two new scripted series. Neither have performed very well in the ratings. BrainDead looks likely to be cancelled. Could there be a second season of American Gothic?
The first season of American Gothic revolves around a well-to-do Boston family. The Hawthornes are reeling in the wake of the chilling discovery that someone in their midst may be a serial killer. The cast includes Virginia Madsen, Juliet Rylance, Justin Chatwin, Stephanie Leonidas, Gabriel Bateman, Megan Ketch, and Elliot Knight.
The series debuted in late June to a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.43 million viewers. Those weren’t impressive numbers to be sure and over the course of the season, the numbers have fallen as low as a 0.4 rating with 2.37 million.
While the finale is expected to wrap up the first season’s mysteries, showrunner Corinne Brinkerhoff has said that she already has plans for season two and beyond. Future seasons (if they happen) will revolve around other family mysteries and feature different characters.
Given the low ratings, it doesn’t seem likely that the writers will get a chance to tell those stories. Still, these days, you never know.

Like the show Cast was great, story line was great. Low numbers may be to summer tv. Could it be released in Spring? Mid March, or April. Like the series to continue with different stories, different characters. Maybe modern spins off old Gothic tales.
Just watched the whole season. I had recorded it on my dvr and finally got around to watching it. OMG!! I loved it!!! I sure hope there is a season two. It definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat! I love a great mystery! PLEASE PLEASE MORE PLEASE PLEASE !!
I have rewatched this because being that it debuted in June, we spend time outside in Fleming’s and I missed a few episodes. I love this show and want more. It left a lot of things open, that it would be great to see it continue with regulars and new people!
We LOVE this show and hope it comes back for another season. We watch extremely few network shows so we hope this one comes back.

Loved it! Great writing, plots and acting. I hope there is a second season, or more. It’s a shame Virginia Madsen is no more part of the show, because she did a spectacular job with her role!
American Gothic should definitely be renewed; very suspenseful & entertaining; great cast, great mystery thriller! Regret that Virginia Madsen was eliminated – she was the amazing matriarch of the family, exceptional actress! The premise being that the Hawthorne family is very dysfunctional, however Allison & Naomi’s lesbian relationship – very poor taste! Anthony Starr rocks! Megan Ketch’s character is so refreshing. Hopefully the writers can be skillful enough to somehow bring the family matriarch back! Allison should have been eliminated – never the mother, Virginia Madsen.
There are so many reality shows on TV that require no scripts or writers. You finally get a show with excellent writers and actors and there’s talk of cancellation??? It’s always about the almighty dollar isn’t it? Forget the quality of the program, give me the money! It’s too bad a show of this quality looks to be removed from the line up.
