This summer, CBS introduced two new scripted series. Neither have performed very well in the ratings. BrainDead looks likely to be cancelled. Could there be a second season of American Gothic?
The first season of American Gothic revolves around a well-to-do Boston family. The Hawthornes are reeling in the wake of the chilling discovery that someone in their midst may be a serial killer. The cast includes Virginia Madsen, Juliet Rylance, Justin Chatwin, Stephanie Leonidas, Gabriel Bateman, Megan Ketch, and Elliot Knight.
The series debuted in late June to a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.43 million viewers. Those weren’t impressive numbers to be sure and over the course of the season, the numbers have fallen as low as a 0.4 rating with 2.37 million.
While the finale is expected to wrap up the first season’s mysteries, showrunner Corinne Brinkerhoff has said that she already has plans for season two and beyond. Future seasons (if they happen) will revolve around other family mysteries and feature different characters.
Given the low ratings, it doesn’t seem likely that the writers will get a chance to tell those stories. Still, these days, you never know.

It is a good show. However the one glaring error at the end where it shows the mayor with the female is that the citizens of Boston would want her out of office.Consider the majority of the citizens are Catholic, they would not allow the mayor to stay.
Best show ever! Couldn’t wait to watch week to week. Please bring back American Gothic for another season!

One of the best shows ever, but more and more re-runs on TV that I pay for. Listen up, CBS: There are people out here with an IQ greater than 80. Please re-write the last, cop-out, episode of American Gothic and give us more seasons. The writers of the show are to be congratulated for dialog, actor picks, and complex plot, not fired.
Loved the show as it kept us viewers wondering from week to week. Please don’t cancel the show and please keep the same characters/actors. They did an amazing job!
I would never have guessed the ending! I thought she would be too wasted to be smart enough to murder anyone! I thought of her at first, but quickly changed my mind. DONT CANCEL!

A 0.54 average per show would be okay for cable, but not CBS. This show is a goner. They should have kept Under The Dome for a fourth season. The third season wasn’t great but it had better ratings than this debacle.
American Gothic is one show that I love. Seems like every show I get into gets cancelled. Please don’t cancel!
