Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I was aghast at the end of this series. Oh my gosh- I took out the DVD and checked to be sure that it was, in fact, the final one for the “Final Season”. I kept thinking that it could not really have happened the way that it did. During this pandemic it was a very depressing way to get stuck with all of the “maybe’s” about how the story would progress with these wonderfully developed characters. I have given a lot of thought to this “horrible” ending and I will probably read the books and hope that they don’t… Read more »
PattyK, the Hallmark series did not follow the books – the books are much better and worth reading from the start to end. I too was very disappointed to find the Season Three ending left everyone hanging.
I just found this series now during later part of the quarantine and both my husband and I love it! We were both saying what a lovely show it is, especially for right now. Please bring it back – the scenery is gorgeous, the characters are great and the storylines are too. I is very comforting and I wish you would bring it back! Andie McDowell does a great job!!!
I have so enjoyed the Cedar Cove story. So much so my husband watched with me. He works late and we would watch together. He did like all the maybe he’ll get a punch senerios. First scripted series to, I read. Can you really base it on viewer participation going down. I know that’s what you base a next season on. There are so many unanswered questions though. Could this be how you end a wonderful story by not finishing it. Please reconcider for one more season to end it correctly. A loyal Hallmark Channel fan, actually my whole family… Read more »
I think it is terrible to end a series without a resolution to the drama of any of the characters. I believe this is not fair to rhe audience. I will not watch any other series produced by Hallmark.
Yes more Cedar Cove Now!
IF it is not too late to resurrect – now is the time!
I found this series way too late, I could not stop watching it, and that never happens. It is the type of story and characters we need more today than ever!!!
I was sad when the 3rd season ended with no 4th season to look forward to. In todays age it is a very refreshing series and I am dissapointed in the end with so many pieces left hanging.
I just started watching Cedar Cove and could not stop watching. I could not believe how abruptly it ended. I would not have started watching if I had known. I hate watching shows that have end on a cliff hanger . I sure hope they bring it back so we can see how it ends.
Would love to have another season! Or even a couple more episode to answer those qu. Pleas please make more!!
As I was browsing on my PrimeTime movies platform, I found Cedar Cove series just a few weeks ago. I started watching and could not stop! I found it so entertaining and, most of all, so soothing to the spirit. A portrait of how life “could be…“a trip to a world that “could exist”…if we would all make it so. I got so entangled in the story that I was disappointed when it finished so abruptly. I would love to see it continued. To know what answer Olivia gave to Paul…and how life evolved for each character. The acting of… Read more »
So disappointed in the last episode. Can’t they just do a few more episodes so everything is not up in the air and they can finalize the show?
I so enjoyed cedar cove! There’s not too many shows
that are so well rounded and interesting. Unfortunately when I started watching it I was unaware that it was never finished. So disappointed
Very very disappointed. So now I don’t want to start like Chesapeake Bay or that new ranch show
It just wasn’t right to cancel a show before it’s time. Every show has some kind of conclusion
Sad,
I’m tired of shows being cancelled when your so into it. This needs to stop.
I agree
The worst ending of a series I have ever seen. Just a waste of time. Canceling Hallmark!
