The sand will keep flowing through the hourglass in Salem, USA. NBC has renewed the long-running Days of Our Lives TV show for another season. While the press release says the show is renewed for season 52, we feel like someone lost count over the decades. Days of Our Lives premiered on November 6, 1965, so by our count, it’s already in its 52nd season. Whatever. Season 52 or season 53 is math-schmath. The main point is Days of Our Lives is not cancelled, but renewed!
A daytime drama on the NBC television network, Days of Our Lives follows highs and lows of the Horton, Brady, Kiriakis, and DiMera families. John Aniston, Suzanne Rogers, Peggy McCay, Kristian Alfonso, Galen Gering, Arianne Zucker, Deidre Hall, Drake Hogestyn, Melissa Reeves, Eric Martsolf, Lauren Koslow, James Reynolds, Billy Flynn, Camila Banus, Casey Moss, Stephen Nichols, and Mary Beth Evans star.
Days of Our Lives Renewed Through 2018 on NBC
The 13,000th episode of Days of Our Lives just aired on January 10th of this year. Last month, we reported the show was likely to be renewed, but possibly only for a final season. We’re happy to report that the NBC press release mentions nothing about the next season of Days being its last. Check it out.

“Days of our Lives,” which aired its 13,000th episode in January, remains a television institution. The show first premiered as a half-hour drama in 1965 and expanded to an hour 10 years later.

Days of Our Lives Season 52 Ratings
As of February 6, 2017, Days of Our Lives was averaging a 0.61 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and drawing an average total audience of 2.280 million viewers, which is not good news. Those numbers mean the show has dropped by 11.18% in the demo and by 4.24% in terms of total audience size, compared to last year.
Let’s hope that new head writer, General Hospital vet Ron Carlivati, and the creative consultants DOOL vet Sheri Anderson Thomas and former co-head writer Ryan Quan, can right the good ship Days, and keep this beloved soap opera on the air, for many years to come.
What do you think? Are you a Days of Our Lives fan? Are you surprised the soap was renewed for another season on NBC? Let us know, below.
I have been watching Dool for two years, an I don’t know how to tell you this but it has gone down hill royally. I mean come on you guys drag out every possible scenario. What happened to the Chrystal and Dr. Dan episodes, at least they held you interest. This crap with dead bodies that aren’t dead (Will) or maybe they are? And the switch between Hattie and bonnie is an insult to everyones intelligence. Pleas fix it so you don’t get cancelled.
I have been watching since the 60’s, and still enjoy watching it. Even though I miss some of the actors that have left the show I hope that they will not keep returning them “from the dead”. I’d rather see them write characters off so there is a possibility of them returning! Don’t care for the science fiction part of the show. I love all the special traditions such as putting ornaments on the Horton Christmas tree every year. I also believe they should stay true to the characters that have appeared over the years and not change the integrity… Read more »
Definitely renew Days of our lives! I have been watching this show for about 35 years. All shows have heir ups and downs! Maybe Days, Sony, or NBC should ask what kind of storylines people would like to see the writers make happen. This could improve overall ratings. Best of luck!
I agree!
I have watched Days if our Lives for quite a while now and enjoy it very much. Do not want to see it cancelled.
I have been watching the current Days for about 20 years and have watched from 1977-1986. I watch ot everyday wothout fail and I would definatly be happy to watch it for years to come. At the moment I watch it ln the NBC app so I hope that this counts towards the ratings. Sometimes I do sadly habe to agree that Days is lackkng something. I guess it will never be as good as it was back in the day. However the 80s are not coming back sl we habe to work with what we can get.
I tape DOOL every day and look forwarding to watching it before I go to bed every evening. I have been watching this show since I was a little girl when my mom watched it every day! The cast is absolutely wonderful and enjoyable to watch so I hope it will find a way to stay on the air for many more years to come.
Of course the demos have changed. When we were 18-49 we watched and we still watch after passing the 50 milestone. We 50+ year old viewers should be counted as we would certainly show that ratings are good. Have watched from day one and will continue to until I have no more days of my life….if it remains on air.
I’m not surprised not that Ron C has been hired to be head writer, if anyone can save this show it’s him!
Do you count your rating also on the internet. Because i don’t have time during the day to watch. I do watch it on the internet in the evening. Some time on you tube or daily motion, nbc.com. i know a lot of people watch days in the evening.
I am so happy Days is renewed
I am a long time fan. I grew up with this soap. My grandmother started my daily watch.
I have been watching since day 1, in 1965! Love this show! Hope it stay on forever!
Im pleased but nowhere in the NBC press release is there a mention of an option for a second year. They are playing it very cautious.
So happy that my favorite daytime show is staying on the air! I love DOOL! I hope it stays on the air another 50 years.
So glad that Days of our Lives has been renewed for season 52! I have watched Days since I was a little girl!
Don’t you think it’s season 53, though?
Please keep Days of our lives on air , I am in love with this show since a little girl.
Very happy that DOOL has been renewed. Thank you so much!
I think Valerie should be locked up, the Abby story killed cause it & Marcy are killing the show. Hope needs to grow up,she doesn’t deserve Rafe anyway,& Joe needs heavy duty duct tape. I take so I don’t have to watch all these dumb people& I’m 58, & myself & a lot of others would rather be watching Aw, or Santa Barbara, or Texas &just let a show that I’ve loved since I was a kid cause of Alice & Tom be canceled. Your writers such. Jennifer should be with Daniel,Brady/Melanie Lani doesn’t want the baby so she doesn’t… Read more »
