ABC’s had mixed success with their new shows this year, but what about Downward Dog? The TV show just premiered in May and we want to know if you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season.
Based on the web series of the same name, the comedy follows the day-to-day life of Nan (Allison Tolman), as told by her increasingly lonely and philosophical dog, Martin (voiced by Samm Hodges). The cast also includes Lucas Neff, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Barry Rothbart, Siovhan Christensen, Ayden Mayeri, and Andrew Gorell.
Downward Dog has brought in pretty poor ratings for ABC so far. Currently, the sitcom is earning an average rating of 0.87 in the 18-49 demo and 4.40 million viewers. The network held the comedy until very late in the season and produced just eight episodes — likely signs that ABC doesn’t have a lot of faith in the show.
However, even with falling ratings, does Downward Dog deserve a second chance in your book? What do you think? Should ABC renew this canine comedy or cancel it?
6/24 update: ABC has cancelled the Downward Dog TV show after one season. Details here.
Enjoying Downward Dog but I figure they will cancel it as they have other sitcoms I enjoyed such as Dr Ken. Hate reality shows
Love the show! The writing is smart. It’s not A COMEDY.A very realistic potrayal of a life of a young person in this crazy world.

I like it and hope it gets renewed.
I would love to see this renewed. I have very few network shows that I like enough to watch regularly and this is one of them. As a matter of fact, there are only two – Downward Dog and Modern Family. Please renew.
yes!! so sick of TV shows aimed at droolers with IQ’s of 88. Martin is wonderful!
Or men who ‘deserve’ a model.
Love it! Would definitely watch it.
Loved Martin but Nan’s character was not likable. She was not a dog person and was not worthy of Martin. I would love a second season but only if the changed Nan or if Nan left the show (a job opportunity somewhere?) and the boyfriend adopted Martn.
RENEW
Would not miss it. Like the concept, but the execution is poor.
really don’t think this is supposed to be a laugh out loud sitcom. it is thoughtful, mildly heartbreakng, whimsical…for those who don’t like the dog, or who say that it’s not funny enough, etc etc – this is not your show. please move on and go back to your real housewives or your big bang theory. this is a thinking man’s show.
Oh SNAP!! Yessssss
Absolutely renew. I love this show.
Not even if you paid me. I watched with my whole family and not one of us could find anything redeeming in this show. Horrible writing and not one of the characters was even slightly interesting.
When I first watched d.d., I thought it was ridiculous, but I watched it a second time and even laughed. By the third episode I was hooked–please, please bring it back–or at least replay the first few episodes that ran before I found it.
If you act quickly you can watch it on abc.com
Yes, absolutely renew it. It’s a very funny show in my opinion and I love the dog on there. It premiered practically during the summer time. Not the show’s fault that the ratings are low. It premiered very late.
