ABC’s had mixed success with their new shows this year, but what about Downward Dog? The TV show just premiered in May and we want to know if you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season.
Based on the web series of the same name, the comedy follows the day-to-day life of Nan (Allison Tolman), as told by her increasingly lonely and philosophical dog, Martin (voiced by Samm Hodges). The cast also includes Lucas Neff, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Barry Rothbart, Siovhan Christensen, Ayden Mayeri, and Andrew Gorell.
Downward Dog has brought in pretty poor ratings for ABC so far. Currently, the sitcom is earning an average rating of 0.87 in the 18-49 demo and 4.40 million viewers. The network held the comedy until very late in the season and produced just eight episodes — likely signs that ABC doesn’t have a lot of faith in the show.
However, even with falling ratings, does Downward Dog deserve a second chance in your book? What do you think? Should ABC renew this canine comedy or cancel it?
6/24 update: ABC has cancelled the Downward Dog TV show after one season. Details here.
Yes I would, it’s clever & funny. Boo to ABC
Downward dog is the first smart intelligent sitcom that has come around in a long time. Please renew the show I would watch it anywhere anytime. I have turned so many friends on to the show they all love it the dog is phenomenal. Anyone watching this becomes a dog lover instantly. Please reconsider and do not cancel this delightful innovative show .
This show must be back. It changes the way you look at your pet. It’s funny, smart and different. Please do not cancel, or find another station. I’ll watch it anywhere it shows up.
Its been cancelled 🙁
Yes, would watch again. Please don’t cancel!!
Absolutely! Please do not cancel!
I and several of my friends would absolutely watch this amazing show. There is so much. To enjoy. Love the dogs perspective on life. Love the cast. Love that it isn’t written to provide laughter everyb30 seconds. The show offers lots of opportunities to contemplate life. So tired of all the violence portrayed on programming!!! This is a unique and fresh show. I think it’s ratings reflect its time slot. Way too early in the evening especially in the summer. Also it contains adult material…. sex, drug use and bleeped language. Kids are awake at that time and parents aren’t… Read more »
Please don’t cancel. This is our favorite show. We gather as a family to watch it because of Martin
I LOVE THIS SHOW! I think you have to be a dog lover to get it, but for those of us with dogs, we all know they really do have these kinds of thoughts LOL 😉 Very well written and Martin’s character is just so well thought out.
No keep it going! So many of us can relate to all!
In this day and time we need a good laugh and Downward Dog does that. I would continue to watch season two
Either drastically change it or get rid of it.
It’s not funny, there’s not one single likable human character on the show (especially Nan, who is a self-centered hag who has no business owning a dog in the first place), and while I like the dog, the writers even find a way to ruin him by making him sound whiny and overly clingy, even beyond what should be expected a loving, loyal dog who depends on his owner.
Again, I like the dog and he deserves much better than being associated with this trainwreck of an unfunny “comedy”.
Really Dan?? No,no,no, the writing is great, its perfect all the way around!
Really Mary The Ratings Was Bad And Not Getting Any Better
This is the best sitcom on TV. Please renew! The writing is brilliant and the themes profound. We all share in Martin’s dilemmas. Plus, Martin’s voice is winning; he insinuates himself in your heart!
Hate, hate reality shows! Since the summer shows seem to be all about stupid people doing stupid things, it is a nice relief to have a silly little show about a dog and his owner. It amuses me, so I would definitely watch a season 2!
Yes, love, love, love Martin. Please renew Downward Dog, the astutely, cognizent canine. Good show.
